Icon2 help!!!!!!! transmission problem

ok picked up a shell with a running ls swap needed a head gasket though. now i had no proof that it was a running engine, so we fired it up with no running gear attached.like coolant, axles, transmission oil and so forth.anyway for the breif few seconds that we ran it it had a grumbling noise.is this because we had no axles in it, also the trans was in a gear,so the diff was spinning. before anyone asks yes we put motor oil in.....plz if u have experienced this lmk

its a 97 civic hatch b18a motor with gsr trans. put the swap in the car started it and the trans was making a weird noise like if the input shaft bearing was bad. but the throw out bearing is good input shaftbearing is good. turned it on in gear no axles put on, and it made that noise

i doubt that it is damaged ppl have driven manual transmission without oil in them, im just wondering if it was the diff spinning making all the noise i didnt get to start it today, i put both axles in and the shift linkage today so next time i start it it will be in neutral
