'95 VX whirring noise when A/C is not on
Hey guys, so as the title states my car, from the moment it is turned on until the moment it is turned off, makes a whirring noise which I believe is related to the A/C system. While the A/C system is OFF, the noise will continue and it sounds sort of like a whirring/gurgling noise but, the moment I turn on the A/C the noise goes away until the fan or compressor stops? Not sure which one it is that will turn on and off while you are running the A/C system. The A/C system blows cold air and works great but, the noise is starting to get annoying and I would like to fix it. Any ideas on what it can be?
Also, in terms of ignition component replacements (specifically dist. cap/rotor) what brand would you guys recommend? ACDelco? Bosch? etc..

Sorry ron the arrow was for op. We both posted at same time. But your post went through first.
Op sounds like hes got it all figured out.
Then why ask right?

I wanted to make sure. Maybe one of you has had experience with this sort of issue and knows more than I do. Doesn't hurt to double check does it? I wanted to know if it's a specific part such as the clutch bearing or would I be better off just replacing the whole thing?

If you think it is the AC compressor, then maybe the pulley or the shaft is giving out. If it is the shaft, eventually it will just shear off. If it is the clutch, you could replace it after removing the compressor. But you would need to do other things like evac the system, replace seals, I would even replace the drier and exp valve while the system is open.

Sorry about the train noise but towards the end you can hear the difference when the A/C is on vs. off. Also, just noticed tonight as I was at a red light that the idle with A/C on was at 1,000 and would slowly rise to 1,200 then drop back down as if someone was tapping the gas.
If it's the bearing, is it cheaper/better to replace the whole pulley or just the bearing itself? Hopefully it is, compressors are a heck of a lot more $$$$. I'll probably have to source a used OEM one or something if that's the case.
Yes the sell the pulley itself. What you can do is get a long screw driver and put the tip on something that is near the pulley and put your ear on the handle of the screwdriver, if its not coming from the pulley than put it near the compressors clutch.
Cool, thank you. I was hoping there would be a way to tell which one is my issue. I'd much rather replace the idler pulley than a compressor.
