Icon2 98 Civic with VTEC CEL code

I just bought a 1998 Honda Civic EX.

I bought it with the Check Engine light on. The seller put the car on the computer and showed me the error code was the for the VTEC system.

His words were I replaced the old VTEC Distributor with the non-VTEC distributor. Being new to the Honda world is that an accurate statement? Can that be done? Is it hurting the car? Do I need to change it out and put the VTEC on or do I need to have the computer adjusted/replaced so my check engine light goes off?

the distributors are the same between the d16 vtec and non vtec between 96-98 and 99-00.

either way a distributor won't throw a vtec code.

I am trying to find the exact code. I wrote it down and seem to have misplaced the piece of paper. If I can't find it I will swing by an auto store and put it on the computer to get the exact code again.

^Jump the service connector.

Has the engine and engine wire harness been swapped? Are the VTEC pressure switch and solenoid plugged into connectors?

Original engine, no new wiring harnesses to my knowledge. Everything is plugged in that I have seen.

As mentioned, figure out whether a solenoid or pressure switch code is thrown.

P1259 is a switch code, it's either a faulty pressure switch and/or wiring problem, by the way it's OBD2, code can be retrieved with a scan tool.
