Default Limp mode - aaaaaargh!!

This is the first time I have posted on a site such as this. Im not a car expert by any means but really at the end of my tether.

So a few months ago the engine warning light came on on my 2004 Honda Civic 1.6 diesel.

Took it to a trusted mate at garage - he did diagnostic and it turned out EGR valve needed replaced. So it was

The car wasnt fixed - light remained on and started going into limp mode.

Back to garage - and diagnostic said fuel filter needed replacing. So we did.

The car wasnt fixed - light remained on and started going into limp mode.

Mate at garage was tearing his hair out. He paid for me to go to Honda in Edinburgh and for them to diagnose. Turns out it was Turbo Booster. They wanted £1.1k to fix. Mate did it for £500 and they were absolutely certain it was fixed.

The car wasnt fixed - light remained on and started going into limp mode.

My mate runs a few garages and I have upmost faith in him and his team. He has waived the £500 fee and now sees this as a personal challenge.

Any thoughts gratefully received - as I say I have 100% faith in what has gone on - mate and team are scratching heads and say this has only happened twice in about five years.

Is that the Isuzu supplied diesel engine? This forum might not be much assistance to you as we only have gasoline Civic's here in North America.
