I just bought my car and on the way home the temp gauge went all the way up and when I lifted the hood I saw coolant spewing from the back what does this mean?

 

It means you have a leak. Could be a number of things. But normally it's a coolant hose busted. If it really went to the top of red then there could be head gasket damage. First thing to do is do a compression test to see if the head gasket is good. If that checks out ok, then you need to find and fix the underlying problem. It's best to actually tell people exactly what kind of car you're talking about.

 

Oh sorry yeah I have a 96 accord ex 5spd I think it's spitting out coolant from the throttle body could it be a valve?

 

where exactly is your leak coming from? there might be a possibility of a faulty water pump and if thats it then boy oh boy thats gunna be a fun fix.

 

The back near the firewall? If that's the case, it might be on your intake plenum. I know it sounds weird but here is a diagram. This happens sometimes when the system is under pressure, and it pops off. Or it may have a crack in it. Mor einfo would be much appreciated BTW this was a pain in the butt to get to, so GL!
