Problems with overheating
It means you have a leak. Could be a number of things. But normally it's a coolant hose busted. If it really went to the top of red then there could be head gasket damage. First thing to do is do a compression test to see if the head gasket is good. If that checks out ok, then you need to find and fix the underlying problem. It's best to actually tell people exactly what kind of car you're talking about.
The back near the firewall? If that's the case, it might be on your intake plenum. I know it sounds weird but here is a diagram. This happens sometimes when the system is under pressure, and it pops off. Or it may have a crack in it. Mor einfo would be much appreciated
