Anyone know anything about lifting civics?
My dads friend has a MY12 civic that wants to lift it due to road conditions. I've done a quick search and seen few people do it on older civics but there was welding and fabrication involved. Is there anything that is easier, bolt on, to lift the civic? I'm definitely thinking taller sidewall snowtires but I don't think thats enough. If only I can get a universal strut spacer or something like that.
Haven't thought about that. I gotta look into it. Anyone who've done airbags know how much lift you'll get with them? I've did a quick search and read something like you can't drive the car with it adjusted to max height.

I only had a brief conversation with my dad so I don't know what the exact problem is but the civic seems to be scraping alot maybe because of the snow setting recently and dips, other imperfections on the road. Yeah so I gotta ask what exactly is going on but what I do know is that the civic needs more ground clearance. So anything custom/offroad stuff is overkill although I think custom work is the only way because I'm running out of ideas.

If it's scraping a lot there's a plastic air damn ( it's about 2" wide) under the bumper and that's problaly all that's scraping.
To raise it though will require a lot of work, you got to think about the cv joints, brake lines, wider stance to help with the body roll, and much more. Cheaper to buy a small truck.

Are you kidding me? If you put an air suspension on your car you aren't voiding the warranty or if you flash your ecu with hondata that is neither voiding the warranty...
I don't spread misinformation... certainly not when it comes to this specifically as I had to deal with the dealership not wanting to cover my rack and pinion because I was running on a modified suspension.

You do spread a ton of misinformation. If you don't know what you're talking about, shut yer hole.
Technically his is right, he just didn't go into detail, lower/raise your cars height and they have reason to void everything from the axles to wheel bearings to the rack and pinion. Now obviously they can't void engine components, electrical, or interior items if you have just suspension mods. But they can't legally just straight deny your claim, need enough evidence to prove it was what caused the issue before that. We've had cars come in with quite a few bolt on's and suspension mods and have warrantied say a tranny with no ***** given.
And as always the biggest factor is your dealer, some are cool some are worse then a swift kick to the nuts. Example, a friend of mine had a shifting issue in his sti, said if shifting around 5000rpm it'll grind and sometimes pop out of gear. The second the service advisor heard 5000 rpm he flipped out, "why are revving it so high, your abusing the vehicle etc." -_-
And as always the biggest factor is your dealer, some are cool some are worse then a swift kick to the nuts. Example, a friend of mine had a shifting issue in his sti, said if shifting around 5000rpm it'll grind and sometimes pop out of gear. Warranty will be voided in certain aspects if lowered as stated above. Heard it straight from the Honda dealer when I was thinking of purchasing an SI a few years ago.

Yes Dave didn't say the full thing about the warrenty I'm sure it was a slip up on his part sometimes people don't go over his posts but most of us are human and do make errors.

okay i talked with my dad. I don't know whats really getting scraped but he said his friend wants the car to be stock tacoma ride height. who do I call to get a rough ball park estimate for this kinda job?
By not buying a damn civic. Seriously, I could imagine lifting something like my Lancer OZ Rally, or even a Subaru. But NEVER a Civic, sell it and buy something more his style. Its really not worth it.
Raise the car the same way they raise baja bugs. Bigger fender flares, larger wheels. Do not go with larger shocks/suspension. That is a bad idea. It's not good for the car. If you want to do a body lift, go for it. But the real height increase comes from larger wheels since you still have the drive train and axles to worry about.
