I just bought a 1991 Honda Civic Hatch. I bought it the other night in the dark.... I knew it was smoking but I didn't realize the extent.
So my question is should I rebuild the engine or do a swap? If i do a swap what motor to go with? Thanks in advance for the help.

 

How many miles are on it? If it is low miles I would rebuild. I swapped my D15b2 w/ 275,000+ miles just because of a broken valve. What do you have DX or Si?

 

190,000 miles. I guess it is a dx? It has roll up windows but it does have a/c

 

What is the factory motor in a 1991?

 

Probably a STD with dealer A/C. I wouldnt swap it unless you have some specific purpose...

 

190k? Rebuild! There is plenty of life left in that bad boy!

Your engine code will be on the block. If you are in front of your car look at the exhaust manifold. Just to the left of that there will be a stamp. If it is a DX as you say then it should be a D15. Unless the guy you got it from put a different motor in it.
