don't waste your money and just keep it stock. Whatever you do to it... u'll still most likely get beat by a stock SI.. which is considered slow to begin with.

You can do a number of things:
1. Boost your engine.
2. Swap for a B Series engine.
3. Buy aftermarket parts for your stock engine (will gain you no net power).
4. Save/invest your money and realize you did the right thing in the long run.

i am confused by this. so you are saying putting a turbo on his D series wont beat a STOCK SI?? you need to rethink that.

Well, if you're serious about turboing it you'll need to do plenty of research to choose the kit that's right for you. Visit http://www.homemadeturbo.com, http://www.dseries.org, and http://www.turbod16.com. As far as turbo kits go, you can either piece together your own kit (usually cheaper) or buy a complete kit from greddy or similar.
BTW, what's your budget?

Everyone has a budget. If you can afford more than most, I'd swap in a B-Series engine and then boost that. It will last alot longer than a boosted D series engine.

I also have a 99 DX Hatch... I've thrown a buncha money into it with headers, exhaust, MSD Ignition, ECU Chipped, CAI and it's still slow. I would mirror what has been all ready said and save for a swap, or boost her.
Thats about all i have to say about that.

Boost if you want to keep your motor. Also, an EX tranny is a great upgrade.
I've had 2 different turbo setups and a couple NA setups, and by far, boost is the best bang for the buck mod on these D series.
