Recently I went to a mechanic for an oil change and they told me that my "distributor was leaking externally" and I need to get it replace or the oil will corrode the sensor and heating bypass hose. They showed me the distributor and I did see dried oil/grease on the silver metal part of the the distributor. They told me it will cost $270, against my better judgment I agreed to it. When everything was done I asked for the old distributor back and they said no but after several minutes arguing I got my part back. I am very suspicious and I don't think that I actually need to get the ignition distributor replaced. I looked it up and found that the new distributor was made by a Chinese company called World Power System and cost around $130. I am pretty sure I got ripped off but I would like to know if I need to replace the whole distributor at all so I can avoid this mechanic in future.
This are pictures of my old distributor

You just got taken in. There's an oring that goes around that piece that you're pointing to. It's probably $3.00.

I am put an arrow there to show that I don't see anything wrong with the O-ring. There were no internal leakage only external leakage so I you guys think it is the O-ring?

I'm certain of it. Just buy the oring, cut off the old one. "roll" the new ring onto that old shaft into position using two hands so that it stretches as little as possible and take the new distributor back and demand your money back. Show them the receipt and if they don't want to refund tell them you're going to file a complaint with the board of automotive repair or whatever yours is called in your state and that you're going to make a bad review with yelp.com. Also, tell them you're not going to be coming back to them if they don't refund, as a last resort. Don't let them know ur not going back to them.

Make sure you don't go back to these guys. They can't be trusted.

By looking at your picture, it does look like there is also an internal oil leak. The one of the inside shows oil on the seal and you can see where it drained to the outside. The distributer is upside down in the picture so you have to look at the top to see where the oil seeped through the shaft seal then outside. Honda does not sell the internal oil seal for that Hitachi distributer, just the outside O-ring.

Not saying you can not find the correct seal but Honda does not list it.
