Icon2 Which piston help ?

Hey guys I'm new here and I have some questions.

I have 90' ef civic sedan and I had decided to convert the dual carbs to efi and than to sohc vtec..

But I have some problems whit it, for example I can't lowering the knocking

I have D15b3 block and have d16y8 soch vtec head(head has the following numbers over it p2j-2 and 95 numbers) and stone gasket set..

My pistons and my block is completely oem... Nothing was made with the block before it is original..

pistons are pm3.. I'm using megasquirt v1 ecu. Oem distribitor(d14a1)
My intake manifold is from d16y4..

A few mechanics are say you must change the pistons to lower the knocking and run it safely. And a few friend of mine saying the problem is from ecu and you must be change the ecu and the dist. of yours..

My problem are these ones thank you much for your answers..

Ok so just for verification you are running D15B3 block, D16Y8 head, D14A1 Distributor?
What ecu are you running.

D16Y8 head is obd2 so you should be running an obd2 distributor and ecu from what I know.

I haven't got obd2, I have megasquirt ecu v1 and it is plugged on a harness wired from injectors and distribitor..

My car is still running my problem is just the timing it cranks a lot when we push the gas pedal..
Is my problem from the ecu or from the pistons mechanics says the problem is from pistons and you need to change the pistons(pm3) to p2e or p2p than you can run it safely with not cranking what are you think about it ?

Im thinking its the ecu honestly.. Is the megasquirt ecu tuned or do you have a base map on there? Sorry Im not familiar with that ecu.

İt is tuned haven't got a base map.. ms ecu runs with belted timing and it can be changed by the distribitor all i know is it..

Is it possible you can call the people who tuned the ecu and see what they suggest? Sorry man Im not 100% sure on this so Im going to have to step down and hopefully some other people can throw some ideas out there.

try Google "d series compression calculator" use the one from zealautowerks.. I've already did the calcs and it seems u may be running 15 to 1 compression or close to it... which is amazing it even starts up....

Kk so if u are running nuts *** comp... and u must have this block/head combo a suggestion is to buy a custom thick head gasket the required thickness to lower your comp ratio from cosmetic etc. ...... or if your more into 'make dat f@k@ run' buy two MLS head gaskets grind out the rivets and stack the thinner stamped gaskets til I got what you need

On a second note... I'm from Hawaii and nobody out here runs megasquirt.. All stock ecu and matching dizzys... so either the y8 ecu n dizzy obd2.... which might be a pain figuring out. Or hopefully u can find obd0 pm6 si ecu and dizzy from 91 crx si ...is what I would do

your problem is all in the tune. there's no way to get an exact base map for your specific set up, you need to get it either street or dyno tuned using a wide band o2 sensor and if need be a knock sensor.

I had a similar problem where i would ping like mad up top on my motor until i had it re tuned

We used standart d15b head gasket from stone.. Where can ı find a thick head gasket ?

We haven't got fine petrol gas it write 95 octane but in really the octane is 91 or 92 and maybe this is a problem for us..

But a few mechanics I speak saying that the head is the problem have two options 1. you change the pistons with p2-e or p2p..
2. You must tune your heads burn room, its really small the problem is the room says the mechanics..

For me is the option is two.. one I can find obd1 and find p28 ecu than change the dist..

another one is changing the pistons but we can't find really what the problem is..
