Default HELP! keep spinning rod bearings

This is the second time that it has happened to me. The first time I only had 9k on the engine and only 9 laps at the track day. The second time was with 26k at another track day.

The car was stock the first time. After that I installed a Mugen oil pan and an oil cooler. The engine is stock with the exception of those two items.

The cylinder wall might be scored beyond repair so any info on resleeving and higher quality bearings would be appreciated. Any suggestions for the tear down would be appreciated as well. Acura refuses to warranty since I have an oil cooler which they are blaming oil starvation on. I think they're full of ****.

I will be doing the work, with the help of a friend, since I have more time than money. I'm in the San Diego area if anyone wants to lend a hand

By the way, if you haven't already figured it out, I have a 2001 R with only 26k on it. And to add insult to injury, the tow truck driver who dropped it off backed into my hood. Quick, get me some tissue.

Damn.. Dealer blaming oil cooler? Sounds like BULLSHIT to me. Who did the intial service the first time you threw a rod bearing? I would seriously question who did the initial work.. Isn't AEBS located in the San Diego area? I've heard good things about them. Also C5_All Motor lives there. Maybe he can help you out. Good luck..

Your crank is probally messed up. Change your pan and take off the cooler and go to another dealer.

Don't know anything about your situation, but I was listening to one guy give me his opinion on oil coolers. He kept saying that you needed to put a small oil cooler on so that you could keep the oil pressure up. I was very much against this, because most likely he was measuring the oil pressure before the oil cooler instead of after, so you were actually just seeing an indication of how restrictive the oil cooler was. A less restrictive, larger cooler would show a lesser pressure drop across, which is what you want. It seems like this is a common misconception, and I can see how people might put small oil coolers on their engines, and end up lowering their oil pressure to the engine.

Perhaps the dealer has seen some people do this.

how you fixed the problem the first time will dictate what happened the second time in many cases.

After you installed the oil cooler did pour more oil into your car? With the addition of an oil cooler it is neccessary to put more oil in to compensate for the extra length it takes to reach the oil pan. The oil cooler could be a reason for oil starvation especially if you went to the track. If you are looking for some better bearings IM eARL on honda-tech he can hook you up with ACL bearings. He is located in Irvine which is an hour or so away from sd. Good luck

Spun bearings (esp. #3 rod bearing) are caused by low oil levels (baffled pan or not). You must check your oil after every session and keep it topped up.

First, I would like to thank everyone for their input. Secondly, I would like to clear up some things. The first time that I spun the bearing, Vallencia Acura did the rebuild. They were hesistant about warranteeing it but we came to an agreement. The other thing is that before every track event I religiously change my oil whether it needs it or not. I also bring extra to the track to make sure everything is ok. So, yes I check it when I go to the track. Yes, the levels were good before I went out. Mobil 1 synthetic 15-50.
