Default 94 del sol si oil pressure issue at startup

I have a 94 del sol SI 1.6. 130k. when cold at startup it takes like 20 seconds for the oil light to go out. i can hear valve chatter during the light and it quiets after the light goes out. This just started happening. recently got oil change and they way overfilled the oil reading like a inch above full. Would this cause my oil pressure issue or should i drop the pan and clean the sump and change oil pump?

Was the oil filter replaced with the oil change?

Drain the excess oil and then measure the oil pressure.

I am unsure, I would hope so. I will get a manual gauge and check. i have read post saying too much oil can cause the crank to spash and cause bubbles and the pickup not get oil steady. I am just afraid to drive.

Best not to guess. Does you receipt indicate that the oil filter was replaced?

DRAIN the excess oil.

so I changed oil, filter, tested pressure this morning. It indeed took 10 seconds to register pressure at the sensor. Should I try cleaning pickup screen and replace oil pump. or do you think its clearances issues and could be more to it>?

thanks

What oil pressures did you measure at idle and at 3K rpm?

at cold startup after 15 seconds of nothing it registered 60 to 70 lbs. once warm around 45 to 50 at 3000 rpm. at idle around 10 to 12. Issue is when cold it takes a bit for light to go out. engine alittle chatty until light is out. I can drive it for an hour. let it site for 30 minutes and start again. it will also take about 8 to 10 seconds for oil light to go out.... thanks for the diagrams

I presume that when you write lbs you mean PSI. If so, check the oil pump.

Also worn main bearings can cause a drop in oil pressure. However, it would be low at idle, mostly.

What type of filter are you using?

That's the odd thing. The pressure is only low immediately after start up and then rises to spec thereafter.

The switch is removed to attach the oil pressure gauge. Does that address your idea? Or are you saying the passage way to the switch may be clogged?

psi yes sorry. at cold startup it has high idle is 50 to 60 psi.( this is after 10 to 15 seconds of reading no pressure. Once warm at idle is 10 to 12 psi and 40 to 50 at 3k rpm

Based on the diagram, the pressure should not dip below 50 psi at 3K rpm.

this

I thought the rule was 10psi for every 1000 rpm's and your in good shape..?

Guess that diagram throws that idea out the window.

So found the culprit. Dented oil pan never noticed til today it seemed convex shaped. The oil pump was having starvation issues from being so close to pan. Esp when cold. Took off and banged it out. Reinstalled now light out instant. Unfortunately all the testing with light on. Motor is a little noisy slight tick once warm. Hoping valve lash but we'll see. Thanks for all the input.
