Default Speedo isn't working..

So my speedo isn't working for awhile now, it was throwing a code for Vss sensor but when I disconnected the battery when I worked on something else, the code was gone. So I pulled the cluster and noticed the green plug to the back isn't connected and I noticed I don't even have a connection for the green plug to the cluster itself. Do I need the green connector? or should I replace the VSS and see if this fixes the problem? I don't wanna spend the money if I don't have to, that's why I don't wanna buy one yet.

Unplug the VSS and inspect the plug and terminals for corrosion.

The black wire should have continuity to body ground; the Yel/Blu wire should have battery voltage and the Yel/Wht wire should have ~5V with the key in ON(II).
