Default late engagement and very soft pedal

95 civic ex, plan to sell in the next 1000 miles and it needed a clutch. had a used exedy laying around so I put it in along with next pilot and tob. I know, dumb move I shouldn't have been so cheap. but now it grabs hard, no slip but it the pedal is very soft and it only engages in the last couple inches. is this an air in the lines issue or a worn clutch plate? thanks guys

next time I will put ALL new parts in. hindsight is 20/20

Using a new clutch plate will move the engage/disengage point further up in the pedal. If you lubricated the nose of the release bearing and clutch splines it will feel softer. The clutch pressure plate fingers will retract as the disc thins out.

If you believe there is a problem, when pressing in the clutch, does the car begin to creep after 20 seconds or so?
