What is a good mail order tune for hondas?
Hey all I am newbie here and I am asking a question for my dad. So I am GM guy and I know of a lot of good mail order tunes for GM vehicles and I showed my dad the other day how custom PCM tune can be for a vehicle even if it is stock and my dad was really convinced my how a nelson performance tune took 1 second off a quarter mile time for a stock 2006 silverado with a 4.8 in it. Well anyways he wants to get one for his car now and I have no clue about any tuners for a honda. His car is a 2008 accord with the 3.5 liter v6. Thanks.
Alright thanks dude. Yeah I know those hand helds and chips are garbage as everyone will say on the truck forums as well. I guess a dyno tune would be the only option, but my dad isnt going to dish out $600 for one.
If you add an IAT resistor chip hack in conjunction with a piggyback tuner like Apexi SAFC, AEM F/IC or Greddy eManage, you can yield a pretty solid tune for considerably less than $600.
i.e. I just tuned a 2004 Kia Optima V6 with a used $120 SAFC and a $20 eBay IAT hack on less than an hour at the dyno, of which I typically charge $140 for (with the use of my Innovate OpenTune and wideband).

I've actually heard good things from the turbo diesel guys about the plug and play controllers. Maybe that's just the turbo crowd though.

There's more to diesel tuning than that. Rolling coal doesn't necessarily mean more power, it varies on many factors. Injector timing, VVT, airflow calibration, Throttle angle, EBC DC mapping and 3D boost targets are some of the main components required in proper diesel tuning.
Leaner actually generates higher EGT = faster spooling with less post-turbine obstruction. Too much EGT causes a mess of other problems.
But their plug and play controllers are reflash modules, much like the Cobb Accessport.
Until Honda has a tunable diesel engine, we'll hold off on that topic.

I was simply making a point about the difference between mail order tunes for diesels and Hondas :p
