Default 2000 accord SRS and side airbag light

I purchased the car few days ago and the car has the SRS light on. Had a mechanic scanned/diagnosed the code and he mentioned the driver side seat belt buckle was the cause of the SRS light. I also get an intermittent side airbag light on from time to time. Doesn't effect the engine, but it's just irritating to see these two lights on.

Can the seat belt buckle cause the SRS light to stay on? I would prefer to stay away from taking it to the dealer as I know they're going to rape me on diagnostic fees but if I have to then I'll most likely end up taking it in.

Can anyone assist with this or know of any honest honda mechanic with the necessary scanning device that can help me with this? Or maybe fix it? If you know of someone please send me a PM with their contact info.

TIA

Try this below for your RED SRS light.

For the intermittent YELLOW side airbag light == this is a usual problem with some of our cars; 98-02 Accords. The cause is the Occupant Position Detection System
Can't help you on this one, besides replacing the module(?) itself. Sorry.

I believe the seat belt buckle has an SRS sensor in it. If it is malfunctioning then resetting the code wont help as it will pop back up. I cleared my SRS w/ two small pieces of wire, hardest part was getting my fat *** under the steering wheel to reach the plug.

I've performed the reset but light came back on. I guess i'll find time and take the car into the dealer for diagnostics.

Seat belts are under lifetime warranty on that car, we replace buckles all the time for SRS lights. Also make sure you don't put anything on the passenger seat like briefcase etc, or you'll get that side airbag light all the time.

Took it into the dealer and SRS pointed towards seat belt buckle. That got replaced under warranty.

Joyboy, (or anyone) what can be done about making sure that side airbag light stays off for good, regardless if it's empty or I have a briefcase on it? It's just irritating knowing that I can't put anything on it without tripping the light. And removing the bulb behind the cluster is outta the question too.
