Default What Engine to choose for my ej hatch

Yooo i have a 97 ek hatch. Clean no rust nothing. I LOVE my car! it has been swapped completly to si engine from a 2000 coup si. So b16 is in it right now. My question is what engine should i go for if i want good speed and also reliablity. Also if i kept my b16 what mod should i do with it. I dont care about cost. Tell me everything so i can have a beast hatch. I want it to be fast. Going to leather the whole interior and im gunna make it all digital. So i have alot i wanna do with it. I jus want tk know what engine and what tranny. Cause i also want it to be 6 speed manual instead of 5 speed. Right now the gear ratio is so damn short cause it has the b16 tranny in it. So the gas isent very good cause im crusin at 70mph and my rpm is at 4500, thanks!

If you want a 6speed gearbox, you don't have to ask.

The K route.

Why not just keep your b16 and put an LS 5th gear in it?

You already have a serious hatch. If money is no issue then put ls 5th in your trans and do a crazy h2b + boost or a k IN ANOTHER CAR.

6 gears is just a status thing. Putting a K into your hatch is going to run you at minimum 6k-7k.

If you are thinking about the LS 5th gear, also think about the LS final drive. You will gain about 600-800rpms at 75mph. Here is a thread that might help out.

Why not just boost the b16? They handle boost awesome and he can make 300whp all day long on a stock motor.

I dont want my rev up to 4500, i want 6 gears so.i can choose when to hit it hard and when to save on gas. The gear ratio on my car now is way to short. I want extream speed. Is their any other trans i can put on the b16? or do i need to modify the ratio?

And don't take RonJ as a dick, he is right though. Reading to find the answers will give you a greater reward then having people tell you what to do.

lol Dominicanbulk i dont think you understand what people are suggesting you.

by switching to LS 5th gear you will drop your RPM when at 70mph AKA its like having 6th gear with only 5 gears.

heres where you can find the best of the best

1 transmission compare to see what speed you go with different transmissions and wheel size

OP, figure out how much you have to spend on a motor, and buy the most powerful thing you can. Wikipedia has stats for (almost) every Honda motor in existence. If you want more power than that, toss a turbo or two on it.

That was my initial thought for the OP, put in a LS 5th & final drive, boost his b16 @10lbs and enjoy the giggles.

J series for massive axle snapping torque. There was a guy on here who put a j series in an ej1 i believe it was.

Even better than a J would be a C32B, or if pockets are infinitely deep, a C35B.

It's all pipedream, though.

Not a bad idea either. I was thinking if it were me and I had a nice clean running b16 without problems, I would probably do bolt ons to that and have a really REALLY fast car in my garage. With the money he's talking about spending to do a k, you could grab a 97 coupe and do lsvt built properly with a holset or similar/bigger/faster spooling turbo and be quite satisfied...
