Default Is This R Worth It or Keep Looking?

Like many here I've always wanted a clean unmolested low milage R. Casually browsing used Rs for years so I've a pretty good idea of the values...wasn't until recently I got serious in finding one. It'll be for semi-DD, the occasional autox and hopefully some track days in the summer.

I've considered importing a 98 spec (legal here) as it would have all the JDM goodies out of the box and a clean one registered would still be about 1/3 cheaper than local ones...decent selection I might add.

came across one locally
CDM 00 ITR (didn't get the badge #)
110k mi
not rebuilt...3 owners
stock
$2k fender accident so JDM front (all vins matching otherwise)
rust free
has front lip and will throw in side skirt and rear lip
mechanical issues: motor mount rattle when warming up...vtec burns oil
no maintence records...claims everything up-to-date but timing belt/pump due very soon

asking $12k and haven't checked it out in person yet. Just curious if there are no surprises if this is worth it. I want to have 98 spec OE aesthetics so even if I can get a reasonable negotiated price I'd still have to factor in red recaros/98 spec CW 16's/98 spec SRS wheel/possible HIDs and work like timingbelt&pump/motor mounts...after all that is said and done it'll cost similar to what a clean, perfect-for-me local ITR ends up costing...which I'd be happy with but at the end of the day the milage is still a bit high for my liking.

I need some convincing from other R owners

1. stop wasting time...since it's tough to find stock R's locally just take the plunge unless you're willing to fly to other areas to test drive that perfect one.
2. Just buy RHD because the hassle/resale is worth the option-from-factory goodies, lower weight, minor power bump and better gear ratios
3. I've already had the patience spending years browsing for the perfect one to simply just keep looking locally.

Thanks for reading.

I drive a '96 spec R in GVRD and I have to say, RHD is the least of my concerns unless you're constantly going to drive-thrus [including parking and ATMs]. In that case, just buy a hockey stick and poke it through the window [I'm kidding].

The fact is: a [near] stock and clean CDM/USDM ITR is almost impossible to find here. When they do come up, the owners demand quite a premium for such merit.

I hold pretty high confidence that can sell my car right now and I will basically not lose money except the expenses over the period of ownership. Hell, I might even recover those expenses considering that there still exists a demand, for there are still "WTB: ITR" posts in the local car forums [See Revscene and other local car forums].

I'd argue that resell value is slightly lower than LHD ITRs because of driving on the wrong side in general. Though that said, it is a bang for the buck because I now have the factory red Recaros and JDM front, arguably two of the most popular non-performance mods right out of the box. '98 specs even have HIDs, 4.785 FD, a 4-1 exhaust manifold, and the JDM 16" wheels, where the above should not be discounted despite being RHD.

Just my $0.02

That car is a good deal, considering that he went for the 5x114.3 conversion just for the sake of the dreaded 4x114.3 rotors.

Didn't see your username at first, but you're also the one who asked me about registering JDM ITRs on RS, right?

i'd pass.

You can get better ones for the same price down where you are.

If you can get a jdm one for the 1/3 of the price as you say, then who cares about the resale value on 4K?

CDM ITR's with jdm fronts don't retain the same value either BTW and my guess is that it will be even worse with time, so once again if you like the jdm look, go with a jdm ITR if you can.

RHD is really no problem after one day and after a month it won't make any difference.

Really? My friend told me his CW JRSC ITR is a '00. I stand to be corrected, but I would guess that PY is offered as an alternative to CW because it's the Type R's flagship color.

The car has been either fully repainted or VIN has been swapped from a stolen car...careful before you buy.

i think your mixing up the years unless this info is wrong
for model year 2000:
US had FBP and PY
Canada had CW and PY

I meant to say a 98 spec ITR is approx $10K reigstered while a local R in similar condition (that's if you can find one) seems to be in the mid teen's

Personally I'd pass. Took AC out, ricer spoon sticker on VC, I am willing to bet money that thing has been raped. Hard to tell, but it doesn't look like the front end is lined up the best either.

There's a handful of cw 2000 type r's registered on integratyper.com. 12k is still a high price.

not a fan of spoon sticker either but I'm not gonna turn a car down because of it.
Good eye on the AC...I'm thinking it was removed when JDM front went on. Anyone know if CDM 00 had AC standard or as an option?

I've also been warned the radiator isn't replaceble with USDM/CDM counterparts...any other pricey parts I should know about that isn't interchangable?

21k for a CW 98 or 00 is out to lunch unless it's from the Honda Museum or owned by someone famous with 30k clicks...no offense if the owner is on here.
the 15k unmolested '99 seems like a decent deal....wish Acura would release production figures for canadian models...I know 99 is rare but i dont know how rare.

too bad i dont live anywhere near these cars haha.

I advise is trust your own gut and do your research. If you feel that the price is justifiable then it is, to you.

You can state the price and there are people here, as shown above, will only pay less and others will pay asking price. So asking about price is subjective.

Like buying any used car and especially cars from Canada, check for the usual issues like rust, damages, car history, etc. If you like what you see then go get it tested; here in the states, most dealerships and performance shops will inspect the car and do testing from $100-$300 depending what is done and where.

In my own experience, when you test drive it, take it for a longer test drive then just around the block. Take it on the freeway, test it in reverse, do some figure 8's, etc.

An alert Type R owner pointed out some differences between the Canadian-spec 2000 Type R and the U.S. model.

Canadian models are available in Yellow and Championship White only while U.S. models also come in black but not white..
Canadian models are available with or without air conditioning.
Canadian Type R’s don’t come with the aluminum shift **** available on U.S. cars, and the faux carbon fiber trim is limited to the gauge cluster only.

[QUOTE=t-zero;49264494]i think your mixing up the years unless this info is wrong

I did edit my original post in order not to get an argument going or leave some inaccurate info floating around for future references.

-I did check the original 2000 cdm Integra sales brochure and it indeed states that the 2000 ITR's were available in either CW and PY.

I'll just say that I've been told otherwise by some people at Acura Canada at a corporate event I attended in '03...that's strange, maybe they were wrong.

AC never standard on CDM itrs, just optional.

OP you're in Vancouver right? I've been on the lookout again the last couple months for another R and there is literally nothing for sale right now that is reasonably priced. Usually there is at least a couple up and they sell pretty quick. There was one usdm CW with 130km, rota wheels and no badging, goofy colours in the engine bay asking $16.5k....

A couple listed last year that looked mint with under 100k km (60k miles) were listed at 14-15 and sold right away. I guess people saw this and think their caRs are worth just as much...

I wish this one was still white: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rc...138222444.html
Really good price for what it is, but I'm not a fan of the Blue. I think the chassis has 160km?

Also seems like the east has a lot more for sale than the west....

Anyways good luck with the search!

yeah my colleague's brother snagged a practically unmolested CDM 01...it had like 60k km and was listed for 15-16k.

The blue one is nice but I'm also a CW kinda guy, not the biggest fan of mugen kits and most imporantly wanting stock.
