HEADERS FOR A B18B1
DO THEY ADD THAT MUCH OF AN INCREASE ON POWER? IVE SEEN THEM FROM $55 ON EBAY ALL THE WAY UP TO $400. WHICH BRAND IS BEST? AND PIPES GOING FROM 4-2-1 OR GOING FROM 4 INTO 1..WHICH IS BEST?
THANKS! JAY

if you want the car to push more out you gotta let it suck more in..... better flowing intake and exhaust ports, upgraded camshafts and valvetrain to let the valves stay open longer and wider
then the 4-2-1 and 4-1 come into affect, if you are looking to build a better low to mid end throttle gain, vs a high end throttle gain, you should want to go with a 4-2-1... and dont think just because you rev your stock LS past 6k that you are making high end power.... you will want a 4-2-1 in the future if you do go thru with said valvetrain mods, because your just losing HP with a cheap Ebay header and probably making a massive exhaust leak as well
It isn't 1994, why do people keep thinking all caps is ok?

And let's not even get started on how retarded "which is best" questions are. There is no universal best, there is only best for a specific purpose, which the OP did not provide.

Not wanting to open my b18b1, I should have started with a 4-2-1 header.
Instead, (over a 2 year period) I bought the cheaper mods 1st, like Ingen CAI, resistor trick, magnet around fuel line, throttle body vortex spacer, and unothordox pulleys.
I kept telling myself that I might be feeling something extra, but I really wasn't.
Then I got a header that I could afford.
The DC Sports Ceramic coated 4-2-1 part number AHC 6504, for a 97-98 type r.
It was under $300, and I could definitely feel an improvement.
The following year, I put a Greddy EVO2 cat back on and didn't notice anything performance wise. It was quiet at idle and it got deeper and louder as the rpms went up, but I now have it on a shelf.
As the years have gone by all of the mods, except the spacer and header, have be removed from the car. (I kept the spacer, because the throttle cable's bracket had to be modified, when the vortex spacer was installed).
So, if you don't want to spend money to make the internals give you horsepower, buying a header will help.
This went on my 2000 LS with auto.

The 4-2-1 header would be ideal just like everybody say. The 4-1 is just for high end power which you shouldn't get unless you can push over that 5k to 6k limit.
A header alone will hardly do anything if at all. Since you intend to use more than one however you might have better luck. ^_^ All said and done you wont gain much from a bolt on LS build so my recommendation is do nothing. If you just like the sound of an exhaust, get catback or just a muffler even and be done with it.
SORRY MAN....I HAVE CAPS LOCKED FOR WORK. I DRAW IN CAD ALL DAY AND HAVE THEM ON FOR THAT...HOW ABOUT JUST READING THE QUESTION AND NOT WORRYING ABOUT HOW ITS WRITTEN?
