Obd1 swapped Crx and Cels
Ok dumb question I'm sure, having trouble finding what I need to know. I'm putting a d16z6 in my 90 crx si. After it's all done I will be running it with rywire jumper harness on a stock p28. I am still in the middle of this swap so I'm not to a point I can't really figure it out myself yet but. How will I check engine codes if thrown? Does the rywire already wire it to where the check engine light blinks out the codes? Does obd1 ecus still have a bulb on it that blinks? Or do I have to wire something up. Just preparing myself for when I get to start up time I want to be able to check codes.
OBD1 does not have an LED on the ECU.
Instead, the check engine light on your dash blinks.
The RyWire harness is well built. The wire from your OBD0 service connector (the blue plug by the ECU) is routed correctly to the proper pin on the OBD1 ECU.
You check for codes exactly the same way as you would on the stock OBD0 ECU.
Some junk ebay harnesses leave you hanging and you have to find the wire from the OBD1 ECU pin D4 and either wire it properly to the OBD0 pin B20.

7. No pictures for the next couple of steps. But there should be a wire on the subharness designated for pulling ECU codes. You should wire this to one end of a switch. On the other end of the switch, attach a ground. When you have a check engine light pop up, you can flip the switch and the check engine light will blink in the same manner as the OBD0 ECU LED. You can tuck this switch up somewhere or mount it some where out of the way. You shouldn't have to use it often.
Nope, it's an 89. I knew about the ignition timing. But I didn't know I needed it to read codes. I have only had a CEL on the PW0/PR3 ECU though. Would that have been different? And now I have a OBD1 P28 and I just use the switch to jump the service connection.
OBD0 PR3 and PW0 still have the LED on the ECU.
To pull codes on -any- OBD0 and OBD1 you need to jump the service connector (hook the SCS pin to ground).
