Default Can anyone ID this part?

Came out of my B18 head on the lifter side of the head..

Anyone?

That is called a camshaft key. Must have fallen in from an earlier repair. It should be about 3/16 wide and 5/8 long, I knows it's metric but don't have the time to measure one now.

That makes sense.. How many should there be per cam? One for each gear, right?

1 per cam, it's the same thing as the crank pulley key made to hold the gears in place. did you remove the gears ?

That's what I was thinking, you got me before my edit..

I didn't pull the gears I started to and then didn't.. I did pull the cam gear bolts..

Looks like that key has been rolling around in the top of the head since I had some work done several years ago.

Both cams have the key in the gear...
