Took my car to a local exhaust shop. The car since I bought has been very loud and obnoxious since I got it and now its time to get it fixed. According to the owner of the shop my resonator needs to be replaced, I need a better muffler (he said a magnaflow would work), and the the flanges and gasket that are where the header meets the exhaust are junk. Quoted 480 to do that.

I'm no exhaust expert so is this too much? Or should I just get a new exhaust? All the other piping on the car is stainless.

 

480? **** that buy a cheap exhaust and weld on magnaflow cat. DONT buy an ebay special 100$ exhaust though. something like srs or indivda are good

Hell no. I had a cat back for a hatch and when my factory rotted off they cut it and made it fit my 4 door for 75 bucks. It a spyder 2 1/4 ss but with thebaffel its not to bad. still want a factory setup

 

I would just do it myself or shop around for a better price.

 

I didnt have access or the know how to weld/ want to deal with it not fitting right or i would have. It worked out ok. some of the hangers are diffrent and the part that goes over the rear susension needed work. OP where in KY are you located?

$480 is too much, especially if he removes the flanges. Never let a shop remove the flanges. It is cheaper and easier for them to remove, but makes it harder on you for future repairs or upgrades.

 

Yeah that what I was initially thinking about doing after I heard that price. I located in Louisville, KY. I dont know jack **** about wielding or anything like that but I was looking into just getting an apexi exhaust anyways. Just wanna make sure its gonna work well with my future plans of a K-swap.

I was kinda of just gonna look for a direct bolt on exhaust system. I want something fairly quiet with a nice deep tone. I saw a really nice video of a Yonaka cat back exhaust. But I don't know. Open to ideas.

 

Yonaka isn't really a name brand, I mean it'd work for you but if you want a good quality exhaust that is quiet go for a tanabe madalion, they are NOT loud and fit great. Or order the yonaka and get an actual muffler (I prefere magnaflow personally but they are not quiet, they are straight through resonators basically). Go for a flowmaster 50 or 60 series as they can barely be heard and come in stainless as well.
But seriously though $480 is a rip off, you should be able to have a complet system made from scratch for roughly $200-300 depending on what muffler you want to use.
