217F is definitely an overheating temperature.

Default D Series engine temp

How how do theses things nornally get? i figured the therm opens at 190 and i give it 10-15 degree variace before fans kick on but in traffic the other day it got up to 217 according to my scangauge pro which on the factory cluster stayed in the middle. My question would it be worth buyin a better radiator and mug fan temp switch and and a cooler thermostat. What else could result in this problem. Its just a stock d16y7. nothing special but i do drive it every day so wana be on the safe side. thanks

Motorcycle fans don't kick on till anywhere between 230-245*... now that's a little freaky.

217*F is hot. Maybe check your coolant mixture too. Keep it at 50/50. Water disipates heat much better than antifreeze. However, antifreeze keeps the water from boiling or freezing. If you have too much antifreeze, it will have a smaller thermal footprint and transfer less heat away from the engine. Water has a really good specific heat and can transfer heat very quickly... but at 217*F, water would boil without the antifreeze.

The antifreeze also has critical anti-corrosion additives. These are just as important as increasing the boiling point and the decreasing freezing point.

Yes! A very good point. It is anti-corrosive, antimicrobial, and lubricating.

I use a 10% mix of antifreeze and distilled water in my computer water cooling system for those reasons. Crazy but cool. Water is to computers what turbo is to cars.

Haha...what kind of computer requires liquid cooling? My MacBook Pro gets hot sometimes but I never thought to liquid cool it.
