...axle clip-ring question..How important is it?
...my Si tranny (zc/si tranny in 88 crx si) recently went south and when I pulled it and put in a new tranny I noticed that the passenger side axle was missing the clip that holds the axle into the transmission (might have happened when we were putting in the zc) but at the time I didn't think anything of it. After driving the car for a while without any problems some concerns have popped up about the axle actually staying in the tranny and not popping out, and last nightt a funny sound came from that side of the car and some slight vibration when the suspension was compressed (going over a bump pothole etc)....so after all this rambling my question is should I just pull the axle and get a new one and and make sure it has a clip-ring

Yes, you must get that clip back in there. Eventually you'll turn a corner just right and the suspension will be traveling up or down enough to actually pull the axel out. The you've got a big mess to deal with. Replacing it is easy, unbolt the lower ball joint and you can pull the assembly out enough toremove the axel from the tranny.
