Default Rebuilding slw transmission. Question on mainshaft

Hi, I am currently rebuilding my transmission and was wondering what's the purpose of the synchro ring circled in red. It doesn't seem to to have any gear above it to synchronized with. Also, is it possible for me to switch that synchro ring with the the 5th gear synchro ring (circled in green). There's literally no wear on that synchro (red).

I'm also having difficulty understanding the circled section of the 5th synchro sleeve. Is there a certain orientation I'm suppose to install it?

The red circled synchro is for reverse, it holds the shaft while the idler gear is engaged. The 5/R sleeve must be clocked correctly and oriented with the correct side up as shown in the other red circled area.

I'm looking at the sleeve right now. I'm assuming there should be a notch on the sleeve? I don't see it on mine

The service manual does not do a very good job showing the sleeve direction in this illustration. Look on the inside of the sleeve at the pointed teeth. You will see one side has cut back indents (like a picket fence) and the other does not. These indents hold the sleeve in gear and go down towards the 5th gear. The side without indents goes up to the reverse stopper cone. There is no need for the indents on the reverse side since there in no gear for it to lock with. Also make sure not to mix up the synchros. The thicker synchro is for reverse.

Thank you for the help! Another question. The reason why I have my transmission apart is because 3rd gear pops out when cruising or decelerating. I've taken apart the mainshaft and measured the the synchro ring-to gear gap, they all have a gap of at least .90 mm which I can assume the synchro rings are still good. Can you tell me if my sleeve teeth are acceptable?

Also, I've notice the main shaft bearing has 3-4mm of in and out play when I pull on the inner race. Is this normal and could this be the reason 3rd gear is popping out?

You are going to need a 3-4 sleeve set, 5/R sleeve set, and new bearing. I suggest a bearing and seal kit. It may be cheaper to just get a remanufactured trans at this point.
