Motor cuts out around 2-3k rpm
Hey guys! This looked like a sweet site, and helpful too.
Here's my problem:
I've been working on my buddies car, he has a 94 civic dx shell, with an integra gsr swap from a 95. His ECU is most likely chipped, as he has two step and a 8500 rev limiter. His car was running really rough when he got to about 2.3 to 3k, it will bog out and sputter, but when he punches it past it, it will take it just fine until the next gear and at the same spot. To try to fix the problem, he installed a new distro which did not fix the problem at all. The problem stops completely if I unplug the TPS, so I had figured if a new TPS was put in, it would fix it. I installed and calibrated it to .5v idle, and 4.6 WOT. Didn't fix it.
I'm taking a guess, but when I unplug the TPS, the ECU goes into "panic" or "default" mode?
Either way, this fixes the problem. His ECU also "buzzes" when he is pressing on the throttle?
Thanks a ton guys, can't wait to hear the ideas you guys have.

Confirm chipped ECU then where was the chip bought from then try swapping it out for a stock ECU what's all done to the car ?
distro=distributer ? where was it bought ? used ? my guess would be a dead spot in the TPS range but you say it's calibrated so i'm not too sure other then maybe in need of new cap and rotor. when was the last full tune up ?

Thanks for the reply! I checked the ecu, def chipped, cant figure out anything else really about it because it came from the guy who owned the motor, but it WAS running fine for the past few months...
TPS is brand new, Distro is brand new.
I'll look into the other things ya listed, maybe I can find a ECU at a junkyard, is there anyway to test them for problems? Could it not be taking the TPS data and using it correctly?

something along those lines possibly, but with out know what's on the chip/where it's from you can't rule it out. No you can't really check them other then physical damage eg: fired board or water damage
