Default Hidden Tech?

hey whats up HT! i saw this picture on facebook on 4Piston's page. Anyone have any experience with kind of piston and pin? i see some grooves on the side of the dome and in valve relief area and the pin looks weird(but cool) like it has a coating on it. Any experiences as to who has used this and how it contributes to power are more than welcome. ideas and opinions are also welcome!

share those power secrets :-)!

Also that crank. Looks to be a forged one. Anyone knows who makes a forged/lightweight 89mm crank?

Knowing 4 Piston, it's probably custom everything. They do allot of big budget K motors. Top of the line type ****.

Most likely wpc coating on piston and wrist pistons. And a Winberg lightweight billet crank.

Oh alright. Wonder how much lighter the cranks are compared tk a stock one. K series has some nice stuff out there for it.I actually thought about WPC treatment on my pistons, even the sleeves of the block.

I hope some people chime in with some answers and experience with this kind of stuff.

Looks like the 5-Axis work on custom CP's. Same way they make Indy pistons.

Those just look like machining marks on the pistons from a cnc.

Raised piston pin allow for a somewhat longer Rod, so that you can run a "decent" R/S ratio. Moreover allows for shorter pin since buttons are used in the slots wich can be from a lighter alloy thus making the piston substantially lighter. The pistons in the picture are also gass ported. The marks are of course CNC, Piston pin could be DLC coating.

No buttons on that setup, the circlips are right in the picture...

CP, arias, je, etc offer gas ports on all custom pistons and to the OP they look like a custom crank custom rod with of course "stroker" style pistons that allow for better R/S ratio.

Sipes brothers had a ceramic looking coating on their pistons at one time and I know others have all sorts of coatings to transfer heat, and better sustain the piston material against harsher fuels also. I'm sure 4piston would be able to tell you most of the reasons behind anything in the picture.

Grooves are from the step down of the ball end mill when the face was cut.

Pin is probably gas nitrided which is really common nowadays because the surface is harder than the material which in and of itself contains several benefits of wear/friction/lubricity. Crank almost definitely is.

That black coating is a Diamond Like Coating (DLC). We use it on 10k RPM V8 engines. It is super hard and allows us to get rid if the bushing in the rod.

NHRA is mandating RPM limiters for pro stock next year . . . they are currently pushing 11,000RPM with 500" still using traditional style valve springs (which last a run or two).

I was hoping they would pick up pneumatic valve springs but it is what it is.

Some things must remain sacred But I'll share what I'm willing.

-Crank is our Billet Winberg 106mm. 31 lbs, and polished.
-We don't use WPC, which is a texturing process to remove surface area.
-That isn't a coating on the piston

While making the most power is always a huge aspect of what we work on every day, We aren't exclusively concentrating on making power all the time. We put just as much effort into making the engine last a long time.

Follow our Facebook for more cool stuff. We post up things we are working on all the time.

It is not the color of the aluminum, but it is also not a coating in the sense that is described here in the topic.

Ok thanks 4 piston. Yea I almost thought it was a WPC treatment. That is a light crank considering its a 106mm and stock 89 is I think like 37 maybe more. That's great you guys focus on making power and longevity too!
