Icon2 1990 civic sedan build

So, I just got a little ef sedan lx as my first personal honda build/resto mod project.
Question
number one, z6... or y8 build. Either way I want to do a turbo build pushing 8-10psi. Which one would be more cost efficient and which one will the easier build?

And Number two, what are my options for front end conversion? Now I've read allot of posts about this but the problem I've been trying to overcome is the current availability of parts in the US... I could get the jdm bumper shipped from melaysia... but that's expensive lol.

Okay. Z6>Y8 due to oiling issues. Either way, you don't want to exceed 200 whp on the stock block. 8-10 PSI makes me laugh. Go research forced induction a little bit. Are you using an Talon T25 turbo at 10 PSI or a turbo off a dodge diesel at 10 PSI? One may work, the other will blow your motor immediately. 10 PSI isn't the same for every turbo. For front end conversions, you can do anything you want if you are good at body work. You can put a corvette front end on. Check Hmotors for front end conversions.

I am going to go with a smaller dsm turbo. And a friend of mine is running about 270hp to the wheels on a boosted and tuned completely stock z6. He doesn't push it passed 45% throttle for fear of snapping one of those little rods. And I'm not looking to do hardly any body work, I want a direct bolt up for the front end.

I am also located in Denver Colorado.

here's my set up:

pretty good set up for a mostly ebay

td05 14b at 8lbs currently, got it from pick n pull.
the exhaust manifold is off an 88-89 civic std (the 90-91's had the cat under the car). use the std one the exhaust ports are larger
bought an adapter plate off of ebay from a machine shop down south that bolts the turbo to the stock civic manifold.
dsm 450 blue tops, pulled off of the same talon my turbo came off of
bought a universal flange that bolts to the hot side of the turbo for an after market down pipe off of ebay
down pipe is from ebay, 2.5" mandrel bent
intercooler kit is a modified ebay kit from a dc integra

motor is an a6 bottom z6 head, haven't dyno'd it (I got it street tuned from t-rev motor sports here in salem, or) but it feels around 200ish hp. spins second all day long haha

What was your end cost for that turbo set up? That is one of the weirdest manifold set ups I have ever heard of though. I bought a log manifold for my set up for $100 shipped to my door though. And how is your eBay downpipe? I need to find a shop around me that mandrel bend 3'' for me.

down pipe is good, had to shorten the part that goes up to the turbo as it hung too low but for 76 bux shipped it's a quality piece.

i probably have, all said and done, between 1500-2000 into my kit, and that includes various seals, fluids, o rings, a new headgasket, etc. plus i bought some parts i didn't end up needing. I got the manifold idea from homemadeturbo.com. my set up was a pretty common set up back in the early 2000's, but i have full spool by like 3500 and it pulls to redline

Thank you sir. I'll have to look into that. I want a downpipe that is close. Completely off topic, but the OP may need this information in the future, what is the cost to get the downpipe rewelded if you want a couple inches taken out of it?

I love hitting junk yards, but around here, hondas and old mopar are just about completely stripped within the first hour lol. And what do I build... honda and old mopar >.<

I thought you had a 10mm shift *** and the factory was bigger/smaller. What size is the shift **** hole you have? Autozone makes little things you stick in the hole and tighen it down and it makes the **** tighten correctly.

probably 10-20 bux, helps if you do some of the work yourself. just depends on the shop. to weld my down pipe to my flange the guy charged me 10 dollars. i went back to him to have my can's swapped out, and he charged me 25 to cut off the old one, flare my pipe and had to install a new hanger and bust out the bfh on my spare tire well a tiny bit haha

Only after he busted out the BFH did you know he was a real mechanic.

Thanks though. That's not bad. I'll see if I can find a half decent downpipe.

Razo shift ***** (well the one I have) have special plastic adapters rather than the standard threaded nut thing (lol yeah, that thing... ) it sits nice and snug in only three different positions to adjust height. Everybody is **** uses the 10mm and breaks then jv welds then back together... I don't want to do that as mine had shattered somehow..

A pretty little update.. some dude sold me a z6 long block for under 200. Then I went ahead and ordered a block guard, a chipped ecu, a jumper harness, a full gasket kit, and a new vtec solenoid.

All that's left is intake and exhaust other than internals, but that will come in time.

I got a ported z6 intake for $20. Looks pro. And an aem adjustable Cam gear, the older style with three bolts, not the new five bolt one everyone seems to break.

Looks like I am doing all motor for the time being, I can't find an affordable radiator that won't get into the way of the turbo.

I recently got eagle rods, floating p29s, and a comp 59100 cam, thanks to the helpful people on these forums.

A friendalso sold me his hot tanked head and a clean crank. So all that I need is bearings and rings before I put this thing together and drop it in.
