Default 99 Civic Exhaust Manifold / Catalytic Converter Recall?

The exhaust manifold on my 99 Civic LX is cracked pretty badly. Welding it might not be possible since the crack extends into the primary O2 sensor socket.

1. There are some references online to a recall cornering the manifold. Does anyone have any information about that?

2. I live in California. The $150 manifold / catalytic converters on eBay cannot be used in CA. Can anyone recommend a model that can be used here?

Thanks.

The warranty was good for only certain 96-97 models, can't remember it was either 10 or 14 years but the mileage had to be under 150k. My 97 hx was covered at the time and I received free oil change & tune-up, cleaned egr ports, o2 sensor, and ecu all at honda's expense. I just got done replacing the one on my 99 hx so I'd say that you'll have to just suck it up and replace it.

When I replaced mine I searched around found an oem one from a dealer online and it was still $500 and was able to beat Majestic's price but I did get everything else that was needed from them.

Also buy all new gaskets, bolt, nuts, washers, etc... and when you put everything back together it will go so much easier, also use anti-sieze on everything. I just had a shop install a new exhaust back in the spring and now 4-5 months later I break one of the 3 studs that hold the A pipe to the bottom of the coverter which is why I hate going to shops unless I absolutely have too.

Thanks for the info. I probably don't want one from a junkyard since the last thing I want is another fragile original Honda manifold...

The car has 107k miles.

I remember when i went to the dealer in my 96 dx they looked my car up in their database and i had less than 130k miles i guess there was a warranty inspection that needed to be done before or at 130k they found my exhaust manifold cracked and they replaced it with a new one with a cat free of charge that same day

Were you the original owner? I am not. Does that make a difference?

Again I will state that only certain 96-97 models were included in the recall. I have never heard of anything newer being part of it, I've heard of 98's having the same problems but honda did not cover them. My 99 hx has 230k miles and the manifold wasn't cracked but kept throwing a code for the primary o2 sensor last winter so I finally replaced that and now just a few months later it keeps throwing the p0420 code so I eneded up having to replace the manifold and it's been good so far and no more codes.

part# 18160-P2E-A22

I bought mine from this website here but the link is for your manifold, they are a honda dealer in TX and worked great for me.

$451.92 + shipping

Ends up off the bat being $35 cheaper than Majestic and also imo they have high shipping rates so you would save on shipping costs too.
