Default 1998 hx, looking to swap

I am looking to swap a motor into my civic hx, 1998 with 205000 prob more like 230000+ since odometer is iffy.

I dont much care about speed or torque, BUT the hx with ac running is just a lil sad. SO I am looking to swap a solid motor for a-b travel that would be very reliable (already in honda so I know im on right trail)

I cannot find a thorough hx thread. Everything is ek (listed not hx), my trans is good and shifts very well so if it could be reused (bonus)

Almost everything is interchangeable on these Honda's. No need for hx specific.

So you want a daily driver that gets from point A to point B without issue?

Sounds like you've already got the engine of choice to be honest.

I like walking into a project with as much detail as possible, like repin, can I use stock hx harness, its the baby single vtec motor is computer ok to reuse, o2 sensor wire cooperation (5 to 3 to whatever), which computer, can I reuse my current header and all the necessary details

the hx has high miles, shakes at idle with ac on (even after a bunch of parts refreshing) and it just cant get outta its own way

i would be happy with high 20's for mpg's as i dont think this hx is doing more than 30 anyway

You really have not searched much, go read through the FAQ, everything is answered there.

There is something obviously wrong there lol
The HX should be getting easily 35+ city (depending on your driving) and 40+ highway.

Look in the FAQ's (see my sig) and your data is there.
Otherwise, look at Hmotorsonline and find what fits your budget as well.
*Hint* Swapping isn't cheap period; some times fixing the underlying issues is though.

The only way to use the HX trans is to swap another d series. The only real "upgrade" is the D16Y8 which won't be that much better especially with the Y5 trans. Y5 won't be that much a different of a swap than an HX minus the rewiring of the 02 sensor.

if your looking cheap and i would go for a b18b1. super cheap craigslist motors and east to find parts for. and great turbo motors.

Just did a D16Z6 swap into a 97 HX best suggestion i can give is get a rywire harness if you swap in anything the other then a matching OBD2 motor. you can rewire around the 5 Wire O2 but it was a lot cheaper (if you value your time spent rewiring it all) took about 20 min to install the harness and it was plug and play.

Why not just turbo the Y5?
