Default Help with Engine Selection on 94 del sol

So my del sol has a cracked head gasket. We are planning on swapping out the engine but I have no idea where to begin. I searched around and found out there are a lot of motors you could put in it...B or D series (and more), H22 motors.

I just need an engine that will run fine, I'm not too worried about performance gains. Just something that will get me from point A to point B. I'm sorry this is such a basic question that I'm sure people talk about a lot, I just want to be able to ask everyone questions directly if they help me because I have no idea what I am doing with this. I love the car and don't really want to sell it.

Right now my del sol has the stock 1.5l engine. I wouldn't mind getting a slightly bigger one if I could though. Also, would I need a new transmission? I think it depends on the engine I'd get...

I'd really appreciate any help you could offer. Advice/tips/links, anything. Thanks guys!

H series: Big bang for your buck engine wise, adapter plates are EXPENSIVE though.
B: All about what you want.
D: All about what you want... still.

If you're just after economy, get another D15b, a bit more *** with it, shoot for a z6 (again, emphasis on a little bit)
My Choices would be the following

http://goo.gl/q2lGdv
http://goo.gl/1BkFO

OR
Replace your HG and run with the same engine for awhile longer.

I agree, if you arent looking for performance gains stick with what you already have. Its going to cost more to switch to a motor that isnt stock.

Why dont you just replace the head gasket? Thats a whole lot cheaper than replacing a motor.

The mechanic at the shop told us it would be $3-4000 to swap the engine, is that about right? That seems kind of high...

That's what I was thinking at first was just swapping the head gasket but I assumed it was best to swap out engine since the mechanic knew more. Also I thought it may save future problems by doing the whole engine at once.

We aren't getting it repaired for a couple of months, just exploring options right now.

Is it actually worth the cost to either fix the head gasket or swap engine?

Well a swap is going to get very expensive if you are having a mechanic do it for you.
