A del sol i saw the other day sporting an sr20det ignited an enlightenment,..now i dont know very much about cars as im still learning myself..i tried searching but came up short with nothing..but what are your views on hybrids of different brands..for instance

del sol with sr20det
em1 with rb26det
ej1 with mr2 engine

whatever..im just pulling these out from thin air..are these types of swaps done?..if not..why not?..what swaps are possible..as i know the del sol sr20det is....is it similar to swapping a kseries into a 00 and older civic?..or teg?...let me know your thoughts and experiences with this

they are done by 2 kinds of people....

those with more money than brains who want ot be "unique"

those who live in the third world and will use whatever engine that they have on hand to make a car run.

there is i guess a thrid group that likes the particular engine so much they want it int a certain chassis for some reason.

 

makes sense..just was wondering because of that del sol..im assuming alot of custom fab work must have been done to it..or it doesnt run correctly?

 

it all depends ont eh skill of the installer.

if you can weld and fabricate you can do pretty well as well as make custom harnesses.

the closest i have done to that was to put a 1991 civic engine with auto tranny and fuel injection into a 1979 civic wagon that was carb'd. basically we made our own mounts, reshaped teh firewall, made custom axles, and then built an all custom harness to run the engine with computer. I would imagine what we did would be similar to putting an sr20det into a honda since you have to do all those things as well.
