Default My ITR brokedown tonight

So i was driving to the gym around 11 30pm tonight and suddenly at the stop light I couldnt get in to first. Then I tried second, and the car relucantly shifted in to second, then I could not get in to third. So then I stopped, and could not get in to first or second. I turned the car off, then started again, got in to first, and the clutch would not catch, the clutch was feeling like mush also. I had to use a bit of force to get in to second and it was a rough when the gear finally caught. So I tried to make it 3 blocks back home and when I stopped the clutch was completely gone, I could not select any gear. When the car is off the shifter moves through the gears, but with the car and on the clutch depressed the shifter cannot engage any gear. I just got towed back home by AAA and am wondering what the hell is wrong with my car. 2000 with 24k miles. Is my clutch gone, pressure plate? The car is undriveable and the clutch is jelly and I just washed and waxed it today and had so much fun cruising around in the afternoon. Now I have to wait till monday to get it towed to Acura, they wanted me to tow it to Acura tonight and I was like hell no I'm not letting my R sit on that lot for two nights with out the Acura people even knowing its there. Anyhow, what do you all think could be wrong? I have to wait till monday and I hate suspense. Wishing my car was healthy

perhaps it is the clutch disk? I had very similar problems with my clutch, in which it would not go into gear, mush feeling! Pull off the Small Black plate on bottom of tranny inbetween the tranny and engine! ( i belive its 10mm and 12mm bolts about 6) If you see what looks like a HairBall it is you clutch disk! It may also be A spring busted on pressure plate?

One last thing, (and the worst) A internal part in the tranny, most likely a gear stripped! good luck, eric

my R is imported from canada thus I have no warranty! ****...... the ONE and ONLY potential downside to having an imported car is going to OWN me now.

Give a Canadian dealership a call. I'm sure they will do warrenty work on it if you brought the car to them. I'm not sure how far you live from the border but this is a possibility.

could be a bad clutch slave cylinder...check the clutch fluid reservoir, if its empty you probably have a leaky slave cylinder. if not it could be a clutch related problem

It sounds like its definitely clutch related, which means it's an easy fix.

I'd check the slave cylinder first and try bleeding it a few times.

If it's not the slave cylinder, it's the clutch.

When a car crosses borders and ownership is transferred from original owner. Warranty is voided in desination country and in origin country. So taking it back to Canada is not an option, but the only way I could get a CW ITR in the US was to get a 98 and I would be having the same problem of no warranty, So I guess I just have to deal with that, I knew all about the warranty pitfalls before I bought the car so now I deal with them. I just hope my entire tranny isnt dead, I had ZERO symptoms up till now, other than reverse grinding and not engaging when the car was cold. But I thought alot of people experience that with manuals. I almost feel like im injured and Im waiting for the doctor to tell me if im gonna be ok or not, ****, I have only had the car for two weeks.....this is too much drama to b having already...

Can you shift the car when the engine is not running?

The worst part about having to get towed:

Is it going to scrape? Is my lip gonna get torn off?

Good thing I have not lowered my car yet, the AAA guy said if the car was any lower he would have refused to tow it and he said he had most accessible loading bay of all the trucks in the area.
Thanks for the responses, I really hope its just the clutch, if its just the clutch, would you all recommend using the stock clutch or going with something aftermarket?

Aamir - who hates that his car will be towed again on monday.

Remove the front spoiler before it is towed.

Hell, I'd remove most of the interior and any other parts that are easily removed.

That also includes removing the wing.

I was just thinking about that, taking the lip off before towing, unfortunately I didnt have the tools or the time to do that on the way to my place tonight. But I have all day tomorrow to take the lip off before it gets towed to Acura, I definitely will considering it is painful to see ur beautiful car scrape slowly and continuously all the way up and all the way down the loading ramp, it didnt scratch at all, the tow guy was really cool and careful, and used 2x4's to make sure the rubbing was kept to a minimum, i have one mark on the lip from a chain that im sure will buff out. Best of all, I used my friends AAA card and got the two for free. And will do the same thing on monday...

How easy a fix is it? I think mine is getting all messed up too. Is this something I could do myself?

Bleeding the slave cylinder is as easy as bleeding the brakes.

A clutch is easy to change but it depends on how mechanically inclined you are.

Anyone can learn to do everything on their car.

I envy the people on this board who can take apart their transmissions and install FD's and flywheels etc, you guys are my heros. I took out my dead pedal when I got my car and thought I was the champ. I had to take out a whopping two bolts to do that. yah whose the man now....

Hmmmmm. I have 48,000mi on my stock clutch with over 150 drag launches using no less than 5k and tons around 7k and I slip it. Also has several auto-x events under its belt. It is just now showing signs of weakening a tad. Mine is a 2001. I wonder if they fixed any of the ealier clutch problems (doubt it). For the numbers produced it does seem fairly common. How many 01 guys have had problems?

If it's not the slave cylinder, it's the clutch.
I agree with reid. so, have you tried bleeding the slave? that may be the source of your problem. if not, then prepare the car to be towed to the dealer. I'd really try bleeding the slave first, though. may save you a bunch of headaches and money.

good luck... let us know how it turns out.
