Ok, So my car has been in the garage for about a week and a half now. I just upgraded my intercooler, exhaust manifold, cams and went to a 3" open downpipe. I went from b16 to Type R cams. Before i did all this my turbo spooled fine and did not sound like the video. Any ideas why it sounds like that?

sounds normal with a car with only a downpipe on it.. what were you thinking you heard?

 

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something. Else or the turbo wasn't going bad. I guess the sow pipe really changed it that much

 

There's not baffling, no backpressure, no muffler, nothing..... It changes behaviour a little, and its annoyingly loud, but otherwise,no... sounds fine.

Turbo doesn't seem like its holding any boost...and the vacuum gauge went down from what it used to be at

 

you've barely moved that turbocharger from the video. vacuum gauge is going to go down because you have no exhaust system. its going to be a bit lower.

How do you mean "hold boost?" spikes? creeps? leaks? be more clear. it sounds normal ..

 

totally normal for an open exhaust. listen to my car in these vids...
I'm running a 2.5" downpipe and flexpipe to a 2foot long section of 3" pipe.
first vid you can hear it at the 0:16-0:19 mark, and a little right in the beginning.
second vid about the same, 0:16-0:19.
third vid at 0:02-0:05 and 0:14-0:17
(my setup from these vids is b21a1 all stock internals besides supertech inner valve springs and oem h23 rods, running 8psi from a super60 t3)

Possible, but from the video you posted, it sounds normal. We cant hear a leak.

 

Again, its going to sound like that because of what you did. Check for boost leaks, missing wastegate fire rings, cracked couplers, missing manifold/turbine bolts, etc.. Look at your boost gauge and see how its building boost.

If none are found, Keep driving.

 

lol turbos whistle, just what they do... ever been next to a semi on the highway?

You'll hear it more with an open downpipe/straight exhaust because a typical exhaust tunes it out unless you're running high boost pressures
