need help making my carbureted 94 Civic faster
ok, i have a 94 honda civic manual, carbonated, simple 1.6l engine thats done a little over 250000km so she doesnt move as fast, the car came with a nice custom orange paint job inside and out which doesnt look to shabby, but a recoat all over is seriously needed. i always wanted to put a turbo in it but a few mates said i wasn't the smarted of ideas as i would have blown my engine and so on, so im trying to start from the beginning, with new leads, cords, air, oil filters, 300 hondata edu, radiator, gear box, vti engine then maybe turbo, if anyone could point me in the right direction or an indication if im going in the right direction i would be grateful, thanks

thanks all, good advice on the dohc engine, but will prob get to that when the bank roll starts to come in, i think my prob is i get side tracked with all the things i need to do and dont know where to start, will upload a few pics soon, and progress with what ive done and what im aiming to do. thanks for for all the positive imput from all

Motor swap is pretty much your only option, no way you will ever make that tiny economy engine fast.
I agree with doctorake here, a motor swap will be the best option. SOHC is allot less expensive than the dohc swap but will also probably feel to slow for you unless you want to get crazy and boost it but then for the price you may as well go dohc. So I'd suggest a vtec sohc.
With the D-series, or really any low displacement engine, there's not much you can do to make it go faster except to add forced induction. JRSC kit or turbo. You will spend a fortune on parts to make it go marginally faster naturally aspirated. Cheap cast turbo manifold, used OEM turbo, ARP head studs, you can boost it to around 200whp inexpensively (ie, without buying forged internals). A small turbo will spool quickly and be a lot of fun on the street. Beyond that, strip out what you don't need to save weight. Rear seats, AC, power steering.
