oil pan problems - bolt holes in block stripped
Hello, so m oil pan was leaking on my 96 civic d16y8 and first thing I did was try and toghten the oil pan nuts. One was loose and wouldnt tighten. I removed the nut and then the stud. And guess what there were all the threads from the block. So basically what should I do? Re tap it or try a bigger bolt? What would you guys recommend? Thanks!
Ur prolly gonna have to retap it slightly larger. If u wanna try a bigger bolt go for it but personally I wouldn't. I would check all the rest while ur there, n make sure u don't over tighten them or ur gasket will break and leak. They really don't have to b that tight. 9ftlbs is spec I believe, may b wrong on that tho.
I would go for a helicoil if you can. I would consider upgrading to a stud kit while your at it and a better gasket. I was having oil pan problems for a while and finally got the http://myhondahabit.com gasket and it never leaked again. This setup was awesome and ended a big pain in the *** for me.
