Just bought 2006 Odyssey - what work will it need? + mystery parts!
Hi Forum,
I just bought a 2006 Honda Odyssey EX with 100k miles on it and am pretty thrilled with it. Before i had an acord and then a civic hybrid, and this drives a lot like a sedan, with tons of pickup from the 3.5 liter engine. love the stowaway seats, built in window shades, power doors and seats.
Best of all, the dealer said that the 100k service had been done by the previous owner; as evidence I was presented with a box of old parts.
Here's the thing: its at 100k miles, and I am wondering, what work will it need? I took it to a mechanic and they said it looks fine, even though it didn't have 100k service done. They said the coolant needed to be changed, everything else was fine.
So I said wait a minute, I thought the service was done! I examined the box of parts:
timing belt Bundo TB329 07 09 2012 (made in 2012?)
serpentine belt 0048 142 0162012 (made in 2012?)
AISIN tensioner (pic attached)
AISIN water pump (the right one but not OEM)
Unknown part (pic attached)
So, have I been had? These parts are either new 9the belts) or not OEM (water pump, tensioner) so could not have been the ones removed during 100k service.
If I was had, I don't know if I should be mad, because I got an all right deal on what appears to be a good van. But then, how do i know what work should be done on it? Thoughts?

look at this water pump , you see the flat area above the impeller pulley , the one with 2 large holes on each side , that actually sitck out of the TB cover , you can actually see it right under the Power steering pulley , if that aluminum pice is newer than the rest of either the block or the bracket , the water pump has been replaced.
also you can get under the truck and look at the tensioner that you are showing on the picture , if it looks newer then it has been replaced
Thanks for the tip. The water pump does not look new. Even more importantly, I found out from Bando that those numbers on the belts ARE in fact date stamps. There is no way a timing belt removed from my Odyssey could have been made in 2012. Therefore, I've been "had".
Perhaps this can be a warning to others - if someone hands you a belt you don't know anything about, look at the date stamp!
