Hello guys, I blew a head gasket on my stock civic. D15b7. Me and my grandfather pulled the head off and replaced head gasket , timing belt, head bolts and all that stuff. Put it together and has no compression in any cylinders. Iv about had it with this motor. Its reaching 245k so time for a swap. I wanna know what swap is the easiest and cheapest to do . I do want a vtec engine. I was thinking a d16z6 or a d15b vtec. My question about the z6 is what do I need? Can I use my b7 alternator, distributor, axles, motor mounts etc? I will be getting the engine by it self. No ecu no nothing. can use my dx tranny for both swaps? Can i use my b7 wiring harness or do i need a z6 one? Can i use my ecu and just wire up vtec or do i need a z6 ecu?I have searched and searched but can only answer some of my questions. Any replies are much appreciated!!! Thank you

I may be wrong, but I believe everything should be interchangeable. Your DX is a 94 like mine, so it's obd1. As long as the motor is obd1 as well, you should be okay, if its an obd2 (96 or higher) then youre going to have to buy the distributor and fuel injectors and stuff like that. I bought an Obd2 b18b1 that im swapping in mine.. and Ive been having to buy all obd1 parts.. which blows..

 

Reuse everything (axles, motor mounts, wiring harness) from the DX. Wire in VTEC solenoid and pressure switch and get a P28 ECU.

So I can use the b7 distributor and alternator as well? Intake manifold and all sensors? stock b7 Headers?

You can use the alternator, you can't used the distributor, you can use the intake and exhaust manifolds but both are smaller and more restrictive than the Z6 manifolds. You can use the transmission but the gearing sucks. You can resuse the original harness and add the vtec wiring. You will need the Z6 (P28 ECU)

 

What will the smaller and restrictive manifolds affect? Will it be slower? And the gearing I know will suck, but will get an ex tranny soon, . . Plus side my gas mileage will be good haha, also, running this setup with the z6 engine and dizzy, and the b7 manifolds and tranny, how much faster will a stock ex be if I were to run into one driving.
