Default Compression Ratio Question

Hello everyone!
I am buying a 85 crx tomorrow and am going to be doing a complete over-haul.
I am a bit newer to Honda engine building and wanted to ask a question about building a B series Engine. I am interested in getting the best of all worlds which I know is probably impossible but I wanted your opinions. I am looking to do a Turbo build. My thoughts were a ITR Head (for obvious reasons) a B18 block (for larger displacement), B16 Crank (higher Revs), and maybe a custom set of Rods to bring the compression up to near the mid to like 8:1 - 8.5:1

Has this build been done? Any major flaws you can see? Any advice would be appreciated. Also If anyone knows what type or size rods would put me here that would be awesome!

P.S. I apologize if this sort of build has been brought up before. I personally couldn't find anything on it though.

Thanks for any input,
-Max

LS block, LS crank, VTEC head with ITR cams...done. Also, keep the compression above 9:1 at a minimum. Personally, i would aim for 10:1 with a built bottom end

getting a b18 block and putting a b16 crank in makes it a 1.6L still.

Kyden- I made that realization right after posting thus the forget this thread comment.

Schister- My end goal is ~400 whp. at that power range is it really safe with the b-series to be near 10:1? I am taking my time with this project and am not in any rush so any info is good info

(also those stickies here in the forced induction area are suuuper helpfull, Honda-Tech is awesome!!)

The compression depends on your fuel. Here is a great thread to illustrate how awesome high compression turbo builds are....Muckman's build is one of my all-time favorites and when i build another Honda, it will follow this same mould

That thread has inspired me, i am definitely doint a high comp turbo setup. Do you think id be able to do the 85 crx build at atleast 400whp for less than 5500? Thats about the budget im worling with.

i think it will be tight at 5500.

ROUGHLY fig this way.

legit real ITR head -$1k
built bottom end parts(no machining)--$850 ISH
tuning MINIMUM w/o tuning software ie: hondata so on-- $800
tuning software--$550 ISH
quality turbo $800 used
quality turbo mani-- $800
cams- $500 ISH
valve train-$400 ISH
block machine work-- $500 ISH (depending on what u want/have done
say another $1800 give or take a few hundred for misc parts.

$5500 is a good budget for a build. That affords you room to build the engine and piece together a name-brand turbo setup. Search the www.hondamarketplace.com for deals on used parts...there are a lot of setups that go unfinished and as such, there are a lot of new or barely used parts floating around

Your goal seems do able with your buget.
I'm at 420whp with go autoworks street kit with a race manifold
(from kaizen speed) made 400whp on the log that came with the kit.
I'm at 10cr with Ls crank, stock sleeves stock cast Gsr head with Itr cams.
