Default 98 civic hatch whats available?

I just got a 98 civic hatch CX model

planning to make it a somewhat decent daily driver...

whats available for it?

leather seats from other cars?
black interior? or is it all grey
projector headlights with separate high and low beam or all have dual beam single bulb?
I assuming that the center console can be switched to a double din from newer model ek?

what I gathered from a bit of research
d16y8 is best power single cam available
boosted single cams can get 40-50mpg ( is that possible with any Bolton turbo kit or custom only?)

what about using an MR2 supercharger that has a pulley that can be disengaged?

Do your own projector retrofit and you can figure that all out from there, better to have dual beam single bulb iirc. Do more research into that, I don't know much about lighting.

What do you mean by this?
A blockoff? Newer model EK? Can you elaborate?

Stock-wise, yes. Build wise, it's usually between the Z6 and the Y8 when it comes to D-series builds.
Boosted single cams with stock internals (primarily the connecting rods) can reach around 210 (more or less) TUNED (chipped & tuned ECU) with a reliable turbo and proper setup. Any more than an average 210 hp the rods are believed to blow rendering the engine useless until a rebuild.

boosted single cams can get 40-50mpg ( is that possible with any Bolton turbo kit or custom only?)
edit: I just realized you probably know tons more than I do, so ignore this....

When it comes to turbocharging. Essentially, the main piece that would be specific to a car would be the turbo manifold. Everything else is generally universal. Turbocharger itself, intercooler & piping, oil lines, etc. Injectors, aftermarket fuel pump, intake manifold swap and OBD1 conversion should be considered when turbocharging a stock D-series. DO RESEARCH. There's LITERALLY Thousands of threads online of the same question and information.

These are just from the FAQ, not to include info from other websites.

Look it up, chances are you won't get a straight answer in this thread.

What would I recommend immediately?
-Full service/maintenance. All fluids, replace worn bushings or serviceable parts.
-Ensure everything's adjusted to spec. Pedals, throttle cable, valve lash, suspension aligned, tires balanced, engine is mechanically timed properly, as well as the ignition timing.
-Once reliability is all set, look into cheap mods. I prefer to start with the basics:
Dome Light, (Integra DIY) Short Shifter & Weighted Shift ****, wide angle rear view mirror
Front seats, I'd keep my choices between a 92-94 Prelude, 97+ Integra, or whatever OEM seats you find more comfortable that you can find for cheap. I have CRV seats in my Civic (has drivers armrest if found from 97-01 Automatic CRV's) and it's similar to 99-00 EM1/SI seats. I honestly think it's a tad better than stock Civic seats but has no lower back support. The best and cheapest mod I've ever put into my Civic is a pillow for my lower back.
Then look into suspension, rear sway bar, coilovers.

WARNING: BEFORE ADDING MODIFICATIONS, SPEND YOUR MONEY ON NECESSARY REPAIRS.

Please, do the roads, safety of other people, your car, & yourself a favor by fixing any problems with it now. Before you plan on slapping on some accessories or modifications, ensure your vehicle is safe, reliable,& sturdy. An overall tune-up would be the best modification if the vehicle hasn't been maintained properly. This may include all fluids (oil, antifreeze/coolant, transmission oil, brake, &/or power steering, & clutch). A distributor cap, rotor, or spark plug + wire change too, suspension bushings, brake pads/rotors etc;. You get the gist, just make sure your vehicle fits spec reliability before you do anything, or else your car will just be riced junk with accessories.

IF YOU HAVE A D16Y7/D16Y8 ENGINE AND YOU WANT TO DUMP $1000's INTO HEADERS/INTAKE/EXHAUST FOR "POWER" YOU'RE WASTING YOUR TIME. YOU'RE BUYING SOUND MODS, NOT POWER MODS. THESE ARE ECONOMICAL ENGINES FOR GAS MILEAGE, NOT HORSEPOWER. THERES NO HIDDEN POTENTIAL POWER FOR AN ALL MOTOR BUILD, DYNO RESULTS PROVE THAT THEY GIVE NO NOTICEABLE POWER WORTH THE MONEY. . Exterior

1996-1998 / 1999-2000 Civic Body Differences & Front & Rear Conversion

96 - 98 Lip Options

If purchasing a replica lip, do yourself a favor & get a polyurethane replica, they're much more flexible than the ABS plastic which may crack & break very easily, although their fitment may be more precise (not as precise as OEM or genuine of course)

99 - 00 Lip options
Info: When it comes to replica 99-00 front lips, the OEM 99-00 front lip is the same as the Civic Type R, & the 99-00 EM1/SI coupe front lip. so... CTR = Si = OEM.
You can tell the difference between an OEM/CTR/SI front lip, & a replica version because the replica has more flare on the sides & extends further than the OEM/CTR/Si. It's obvious if you focus.

Same applies as mentioned above for the 96-98 replica lips purchases & quality.

Rear lips:
Info: There is a difference on rear bumpers between the years & models.
96-98 Coupes/Sedans share the same rear bumper
99-00 Coupes/Sedans share the same rear bumper
96-00 Hatchbacks share the same rear bumper

Mudguard options:
Front mudguards:
FOR COUPE = Any '96-'00 Civic mudguards will fit.
FOR HATCH = Any '96-'00 Civic mudguards will fit.
FOR SEDAN = Any '96-'00 Civic mudguards will fit.

Rear mudguards:
FOR '96-'98 COUPE = '96-'98 Civic coupe/sedan mudguards fit.
FOR '99-'00 COUPE = '99-'00 Civic coupe/sedan mudguards fit.
FOR '96-'00 HATCH = '96-'00 Civic hatch mudguards fit.
FOR '96-'98 SEDAN = '96-'98 Civic coupe/sedan mudguards fit.
FOR '99-'00 SEDAN = '99-'00 Civic coupe/sedan mudguards fit.

Rear RSX mudguards have been cut to fit rear bumpers with rear lips on hatchbacks.

Fog Lights options
96-98 Circle - 96-98 Square
99-00 Circle

DIY 96-98 Civic square fog light wiring tutorial
DIY 99-00 Civic Ebay Fog Light Wiring tutorial

Info: In the US, USDM (OEM) Fog-lights came in clear lenses. The OEM Brand for Honda fog-lights would be "Raybrig" or "Stanley". Another common brand is "Depo" which are replica aftermarket foglights. They tend to leak, & install/fitment won't be 100% as OEM, so be aware you get what you pay for. Esuse is another aftermarket brand, of higher quality than Depo though.
Also, for the 99-00's, the OEM ones came with (as mentioned before) clear Raybrig lights, & a gray cover like this. Often, you may see yellow lights & a black cover, as that's usually the "JDM" ebay/replica aftermarket version. P.S: PWJDM Lights are Depo brand, not OEM. This is because in Japan the 99-00 lights are yellow Stanley's from the factory. As an aesthetic option, you can always get clear foglights & tint them with yellow tint, if you decide to change your mind, you may remove the tint & go back to clear fogs.

Tail-light options:
They're separated into different categories as to what matches the body, the coupes & hatcbacks are interchangeable in all years. however the sedans have two different trunks depending on the year.
96-00 Coupes
96-98 OEM Amber - 99-00 OEM Non-Amber - 96-98 Red tint over amber - 99-00 Smoked over Clear

96-98 Sedans
info: (need clarification) 96-98 Red/Clear Depo's are replicas of the 96-98 Red/Clear JDM SiR/Honda Integra SJ
96-98 OEM Amber - 96-98 Red/Clear JDM SiR/Honda Integra SJ

99- 00 Sedans
info: 99-00 Red/Clear Depo's are replicas of the 99-00 Red/Clear Philippine SiR/Honda Integra SJ
99-00 OEM Amber - 99-00 Red/Clear Philippine SiR/Honda Integra SJ

96-00 Hatchbacks
96-98 OEM Amber - 99-00 OEM non-Amber - 96-00 Clear Hatchback Aftermarkets

Engine
A clean sweep for a first, WD40 and/or simple green/engine degreaser and a pressure washer or just simple a hose does a great job. Make sure you cover electrical components though.

If you have a D-series and want to modify the engine for power, but don't have at least $2,000 to spend, you should just give up and save up until then. Read this thread for more info:

~$20 Valve Cover Painting
DIY

Suspension:
All that would be said here is if you go cheap, you get cheap. Suspension is crucial to your safety.
In most cases, when referring to Civics coilovers, the coilovers would be a whole aftermarket kit (shocks + springs combo [adjustable or not]), Shocks being just the shock absorbers, and springs/coil sleeves being the springs that are wound around the shock.
Lowering springs w/ stock shocks: Bump stops may need to be cut in half + dust boot (get alignment, shocks may blow)
Adjustable springs w/ stock shocks: Bump stops may need to be cut in half+ dust boot (get alignment, shocks may blow)

A great option to refer to is a rear sway bar, this reduces body roll and helps increase handling. If you feel like you're falling out of your seat in a deep turn, tires slipping, car feels like it's twisting, then get a stabilizer/sway bar and chances of that will decrease, I wish I had purchased a rear sway bar as my first mod.

EK Honda Civic Coilovers Install

The common answer to be the best bang for buck suspension setup, would definitely be Koni Yellow/Ground Control combo. More info here:
Need help choosing suspension? Click here!!

Wheels:
You have a many options as long as they fit your bolt pattern (commonly 4x100 unless a lug-conversion has been done)
OEM wheels, a replica knockoffwheel along the lines of (XXR. Drag. Rota etc or the more genuine brands such as Work, CCW, SSR, Mugen, Rays, Enkei, etc;.
14's seem to small, 17's are pushing it for the big side (the rice days are over)
Keep your range between 15 & 16 with good tires.

Wdf? haha show your collection!
Yeah, I'm used to just compiling a **** ton of info for noobs and just throwing it at them to see what they're gonna do next (in most cases, they ever log back in, or they totally just go into the ricey or stance scene ignoring my suggestions )
Took me a while to realize you know your Honda's actually and a member since 2005. Hell, I was only 10 at the time.

lol, well can you elaborate about the center console thing though?

At least you're mechanically inclined and exposed to the forums enough!

Turbocharging doesn't make it any great because you are upgrading the fuel system so as long as you tune a good AFR I assume it would be decent mpg, not 50+ of course... I'm not too sure about this all though, I just got into tuning Subaru's recently and it's hella confusing.

Check d-series.org for all the info about turbocharging a D, it took me a couple days to fully grasp the concept of turbocharging and all, but in the end after all my research I finally understand what I need to do to get it all together.

I thought you said you got a 99 Civic hatch?
If you have that one on top then you most likely have a 96-98 Civic... Unless the previous owner did a complete 99-00 to 96-98 climate swap in his 99-00, which is incredibly more difficult than a front end body swap.

Default Re: 99 civic hatch whats available?

the dash you pictured as yours is from a 96-98 but you said your car is a 99,, the one you pictured as the one you want is from a 99-00

if your car really is a 99, then someone went through alot of work to convert your dash to 96-98 specs, it isnt easy as just replacing the dash piece, the whole internal hvac controls are different, 96-98 uses sliders, and 99-00 is electronic with buttons

so is your car really a 99?

leather seats,, you can use S2000 seats, or dc integra front seats, you can use the s2000 or integra seat rails to, you dont have to switch to ek rails,, the only thing you need to do is slightly mod the rear inner seat mount, the hole doesnt exactly match up, on the integra seat you need to make the hole larger, the s2k you need to drill another hole, very easy,, and both seats will sit a good bit lower the stock civic seats

the integra leather seats come in black or dark grey
the s2000 leather seats come in black, red, blue, tan, red/black

for rear leather seats, you use 2 door dc integra upper section, you swap the leather cover and cushion onto the civic frame,, and you use 4 door db integra bottoms, and they will bolt in a fit flush, cant use 2 door dc bottoms

the jdm ek9 civic type r came with a oem black interior, of course the dash is rhd so you cant use that, but all the rest of the interior will swap in, and you can get vinyl dye SEM to get the dash to match

for projector headlights there are many aftermarket companys out there that make them, just do a google search and many will come up

and there are many turbo kits out there, to get it to run right and still get good mileage you will need a good way to tune it, ie hondata etc, but yes you can still get great gas mileage with a turbo kit, just keep the turbo small

Not only did the EK9 come in black interior, but there are some EDM LHD Black interiors, however the dash alone is a hefty price (i believe its the EK4 VTI)
Some people ask up to $1000+ just for the dash... another option is to dye, but that's too much work. I think the Type K Dark gray is fine.

I mentioned DIY seat options in my above quote, scroll back up! Other than that, USDM hatches only came in the shitty seats.

Which links are you talking about? I can try to find an alternative

what kind of leather? Anything specific? Like stitched red or just plain black?

If you want to keep it OEM look up any of the steering wheels mentioned in the link that I had already posted above

alot of the older writeups are missing pictures. regardless of what section they are in.

if HT would host the damn images even in half the size there would be much less questions asked by noobs.. but i dont see it happening any time soon.

i just want a stock steering wheel. im not trying to spend tons of cash on this car.
lowballers gnna lowball. i spent 12000 on my del sol and now cant even sell it.

people are so fn cheap. i buy a used part for 250 it sits on my shelf and when i sell it people claim that somehow its more used than it was before so its worth less. like it matters which shelf it sits on warehouse or my garage.

ive seen few pictures of 96-00 leather steering wheel but not sure what year and trim it came with and if its even available in dark grey.

oh and the reason i wanted stock radio is because it sits flush with the heater console.

i hate aftermarket stereos look they only look good on the store display but almost never blend in with the cars interior

I know the feeling about the lowballers out there. I can't stand when I'm selling something for like half what it costs online and people still try to get it for less, bastards...
As far as the steering wheel goes just get one from a canadian acura el, I dont know if they are in grey though, I thought you were switching over to black interior anyways?
