Icon2 Oem LSD? Aftermarket?

Sup guys.

I recently bought a LSD off craigslist for $60 (The guy listed it as a ITR LSD). It was merely a gamble since I don't know much about differentials.

Anyways, I am getting conflicting information.

From the research ive done, an ITR lsd is not bolt on into a LS transmission, Ive read the final drive cannot fit over the differential. (you would need a itr/gsr FD and countershaft)

Here is the pic of the LS final drive over the LSD. He also put in the countershaft with gears and it fit just fine...

I know the picture is limiting, but can anyone confirm this is a OEM lsd, or is it aftermarket?? The guy building my transmission said its NOT oem. He said the OEM does not have the grooves for the speed sensor or whatever it is?? (circled in red) He said he just installed an oem lsd recently and it did not have these grooves, and he told me this looks like the cusco he installed in a transmission recently.

Any tranny experts here? Any info you can give me will be appreciated. I have no problem with the lsd fitting in there, I'd just like to know what kind it is!! I can get more pics tomorrow if you'd like some.

Thank you!!

That is not an oem LSD. Thats a clutch type with the speedo drive gear machined in. The cusco have a bluish gray color to them which looks like the one you have in the pic. They have a b16a application which will also fit to LS trans just the same. Get some redline LSD additive because that's a very harsh diff to drive on the streets. It will bind and fight you on low speed turning.

You can reduce the harshness/lock percentage by playing with the clutch/plate order.
I normally set my Diffs at ~60% Lock.

I have no idea what this means, but should the old man who rebuilds trannies know this?

I read somewhere these lsds have issues with high horsepower? I am going to be pushing 400 to the wheels soon. I am not 100% sure its a cusco LSD, but it sure looks like one.

Yeah if you are leaving it as is prepare for jerky turning. If it's a cusco the redline additive takes 90% of it away

Truth right there. I just bought a K-swapped Civic which I thought had a hammered OEM LSD. The car was an absolute bitch to drive on the street. Big arms are a requisite for making low speed turns and the transmission would groan while making u-turns. The steering wheel would even sometimes jerk while making left or right hand turns at low speed.

OP, congrats on finding one hell of a deal for an awesome LSD.

Update. I tore it down to confirm its a cusco type MZ lsd. I noticed it has 12 clutches instead of 10 like other cuscos do.

Best $60 ive ever spent.
