How to replace 05 pilot front impact sensor
Hi can anyone tell me how to remove the bumper to replace the sensor? I have the Haynes manual but it doesn't detail how to do this.
I have a 2005 Pilot with 218k miles. I had the Honda dealer diagnose a front impact sensor code of 42-11 but they want $600 to replace it. I purchased the new sensor for $55 and have the bumper cover off. Apparently access to 1 of the 2 screws holding the old sensor in place is blocked by the bumper.
Alternately I am considering epoxying the new sensor next to the old one so I don't have to take the bumper off. Think that will work?

I've done some investigation and it looks like there is a cross member of the frame blocking access to one of the mounting bolts of the impact sensor. The dealer said they had to remove the bumper to get to it. Is this really part of the bumper?
Well it turns out to be a plate that needs to be removed along with the plastic bumper cover. Remove the lower, upper and bumper covers. Remove the 4 14mmm bolts holding the plat on and you will have access to the impact sensor. $50 in parts. 2 hours work. $600 saved.
