Default civic wont go into first gear?

Hey guys I have a 96 civic turbo. Y8, and im having troubles getting it into first gear. I come to a stop in neutral. Push the clutch in and go to put it in first gear and it wont go most of the time and I habe to try and push harder and mess with it. It has a new slave and master cylinder. Bled properly, everything seems to work fine. Its a new clutch throw out bearing pressure plate and flywheel. Did I possibly install the shift linkage wrong, bent it, or bushings bad or something...I dont know what else to do inless the trans is bad....didnt have this bad. Thanks for any help guys. I searched and found lots with the same problem just no solutions hahaha

Try adjusting the pedal a little bit. I was having a similar problem and adjusting the adjustment screw on the clutch pedal just a small amount made a world of difference. Here's the FSM page on it:

Hope that helps!

Your clutch is TOAST. Did you slowly break-in the clutch after the install? If not, one of the springs on the clutch disk dislodged and is the culprit.

Before you take it apart, though, play around the with adjustment on the pedal. I replaced my master and slave cylinders and was having almost an identical problem. It would shift from 2-5 fine, but first and reverse were kind of tricky at times. I'd have to press clutch, try it, press clutch, try, until it worked. Usually took 2-3 times to get it in. After adjusting the pedal connection to the MC, problem was solved and hasn't been back since. It's worth a shot!

When I purchased my '95 del sol, the last owner stated he had replaced the clutch. Unless the car is slowly creeping forward, you have to fight the gear shift to get it to go into 1st gear. And reverse gear makes a grinding noise when engaged. All the other gears are fine. I wonder if a clutch pedal adjustment is what I need???

^^ Mine was similar to that. It would "clunk" into reverse, and it would be hit or miss as to whether or not it was going to grind. Definitely try adjusting the pedal a bit and see what happens. You don't want to tear up your clutch by not disengaging 100% by having a misadjusted pedal!
