H23 Rebuild
I went to the shop today in order to get new pistons and rings from my local performance shop. They're the msot decent out of all of them and I trust them to a certain extent. I asked about pistons and rings, and he quoted me 575 just for the JE Pistons ... but we eventually talked a while and basically he told me if you're gonna build up for turbo you might as well switch out all the bearings resleeve, along with the pistons and rings and something about the cylinder walls. So I was like..how much is the price estimate? And he goes roughly about 2000 dollars. So I was like wTFFFFFF...how much is labor? He goes 800 dollars...So I left
For all the guys with Engine Rebuilds, what do yall recommend? Is this a fair price?
P.S. I know this question is asked alot, but should I go with the rebuild on the H23 with turbo or go for a H22 Engine swap...this is my daily driver and only mode of transportation...thanks

Welcome to honda-tech, feel free to use the search button on topics like this, they've been covered 10000s of times.
If you want pistons, rods or sleeves, order them from race engineering, http://www.raceeng.com/ or go to http://www.ks-motorsports.com/
Yes youll need rods too, go with eagle or crower. You do need to change out your bearings also, why? because if you are going to do something, you need to do it right the first time. you can use your old ones, but they already have wear and tear on them. when you take a shower, you dont put on dirty boxers do you?
As far as sleeving, yes you need to sleeve your block. Im not going to type about this subject, just go to search and look in the prelude forum under the archived keyword "releeve".
With JE/wiseco pistons, crower/eagle rods and a darton/golden eagle resleeved block youll virtually have a bullet proof bottom end. The thing to fail most often is stock prelude piston ringlands, thats why you need new pistons. Then of course, youll need fuel upgrades as well as a good fuel management system and at some DYNO TUNING done to the motor.
Lastly, if you want to go turbo, plan on not being a cheap ***. $800 in labor is not bad to have ALL the work done as well as re-assembled. Plan on spending another 800 for turbo installation as well as motor installation. You can run an easy 7psi all day long on a stock h23a motor, i did for over a year and a half with no problems, just dont get boost happy. If you are already complaining about spending 2k, well then turbo is NOT for you. Your best bet is going all motor with an h22a motor. When you go back to the shop that you thought was ripping you off, id suggest appologizing for wasting their time in trying to help you.

Gude is right. thats like changing your head but using the same gasket (not good). Ive seen pistons for 500 and crower rods for 600. sleeves run 500-800 depending.. bearings and a complete engine gasket kit are not cheap either... your easily lookin at 2100+ if u do it right.

Hmmm....agreed...
I know I've searched many times for this, but can someone tell me where I can find posts on a H22a swap for a H23 in the prelude si's? It's always the accords, some hb's and other cars doing the H23 swaps but what about the SI's MAN!
