Buying a Stolen Integra?
I'm interested in buying a car but it seems a little fishy.
2000 Integra GSR with 70K Original Miles
Seller has:
-No Keys
-No Plates
-No Title
-No Registration
-The Ignition is Disassembled
I asked him if it was stolen and he said no. He says his step dad just passed away and it was his car. He left no paperwork whats so ever on it.
I asked if he could provide me the VIN so I could look into it but I have no way of running a VIN.
Can anyone help me run this number to see if the car is stolen?
VIN: JH4DC2392YS004094

Silver lines between the numbers on the odo, I believe that means it's been tampered with. No remotes for the door poppers since it has shaved handles.
Dude, I would stay far, far away from that car, no question about it.

Someone was able to run a CarFax on it for me.
It turns out it is not stolen.
I'm only interested in the JRSC. That alone is worth at least $1,500. I will part out the rest and junk the shell.
Thanks.

Yes you do: Call your insurance company.
They have WAY more information available to them than you ever could, yourself. They have ALL VINS for ALL reported-stolen vehicles.
They can also tell you if the car is branded salvage, if there are liens against it, or if there are any other odd things about it.

I'd get a second opinion, the insurance suggestion seems like a good one. Verify also that the vin he gave you actually matches the vehicle in the ad... If it is stolen, please notify the police!

considering the condition of the car and the fact this is sketchy as hell i wouldn't be surprised if the JRSC was beat to hell and a POS by now. if the car even actually had 1 in the first place.
Bet you could low ball him if he desperately needs money. Make sure all vins match the one posted. It's hard to fudge the one on the firewall but so easy to change the one on the dash. It'd be a decent parts car for the swap and blower.
Ps I'd be interested in that greddy cat back if you pick it up

wTF? The seller replaced the battery with one that isn't even the correct size. Buy it and part that POS out. I'm sure it's a headache in the making.
low ball him 1.5K or if you're lucky 1.3K lol meh if it's stolen that'll suck if you get "position of stolen property". but I would: 1 buy it 2 rattle can paint it black 3 rip off/sand any vins 4 part it out discreetly. For the record I HATE thieves and would never steal something but if there's easy money to be had
"I don't like thieves but if I can make some easy money, then sure, i'll take it..." That's how I read your comment, is that really how you look at the situation? I met a guy in his early 20's once, said he sold some 50 cars in one year, I asked him if he had stolen any of them, said no but that "if someone offers me an integra for a few hundred bucks, then of course im going to take it". Freaking coward, adding to the problem. If there is no demand, then the supply (e.g. stolen integras) will go away.
I buy all my parts at the dealership/legit retailer, I never will willingly buy stolen merchandise/resell it to make an extra buck. It was just a suggestion as to what someone could do in that situation. I was referring to making essay money other ways lol.
