1998 Civic Power Steering Rack Removal
OK, I've memorized the HSM on rack removal and watched all the youtube vids, but after disconnecting everything from my PS rack I still can't get the steering splines to clear the firewall. I spent about 2 hours under the car twisting and turning the thing every way possible with no luck. Yes, the exhaust is disconnected. What am I missing? Anyone have the secret handshake?
You un did the steering column under the dash right? Make sure your wheels are straight and make sure your steering wheel is straight when you unhook it
Yep, the rack is floating free, not attached to anything. The short steering shaft with the spines on it won't clear the hole in the fire wall by about half an inch.
OK, I finally figured it out. The trick is to push the driver's side inner tie rod end all the way into the rack. Once I did that the rack came out like S**t out of a goose.
