Default 2000 CRV build thread

I'm new to the forum and I guess I should share my truck with you guys. It's a 2000 Honda CRV EX, RT4WD, automatic (for now), Sebring Silver Metallic. Due to severely limited budget, this "build" will take forever, but I'll try to update it as much as possible. Sometimes I may be asking questions and opinions since I'm new to the RD1 community (I'm pretty familiar with B series engines, which is the reason why I chose this platform). In my next post I'll talk about what's done to the car already, what my goals are and I'll include some pics.

A lot of the interior pieces were spay painted red by the previous owner so I had to paint them with black interior paint. Doesn't look bad, I'm just worried about it peeling/flaking off. The perforated pleather on the door panels was replaced with aftermarket red leather. I didn't bother painting that because I know that it will rub right off. I'm eventually going to replace a lot of the painted pieces along with the door panels with OEM junkyard/swap meet finds.

I recently did valve lash adjustment, timing belt (Gates Racing blue timing belt), water pump (Honda), cam and crank seals (H), painted the valve cover with black crinkle engine paint, valve cover gasket (H), cam end plug (H), distributor o-ring (H), cap, rotor, red plug wires (Bosch), platinum plugs (NGK), radiator hoses (NAPA). Changed all the fluids. Made a real homemade CAI using stock air piping, metal piping and K&N filter and sock. My catalytic converter clogged so I replaced it with a new one. Upgraded the headlight bulbs to Sylvania Silverstar. Tail lights were tinted red by the previous owner and I'm keeping that since I like them.

Recently, I removed the spare tire and bracket off the back. I plugged the holes from the bracket with black 3/8 interior plugs. When I get a chance, I'll try to fit my dad's Element spare and see if it clears the caliper. Then I'll see how it fits in the trunk well. I'm trying to keep the picnic table since I actually use it. If it all works out, I'll try to find an Element spare at either Englishtown Swap Meet, junkyard or forums. Also, I'm desperately trying to get rid of that dent on the left rear corner but I can't get to it from the inside.

Last weekend I tried to tint my rear glass. I succeeded.. kind of. It took forever since there was a lot of trimming. I installed it upside down so the tint kept on falling down. It's on there pretty good but it looks like ****. I'm going to attempt it again with the glass removed and laying on a workbench. I just gotta figure out how to remove the glass shocks without shattering it.

Next on the list of mods are minor things. M3 style lip to put on the rear gate. It needs a subtle touch of something now that the spare is gone, hopefully the lip looks good. My rear view mirror is peeling behind the glass, so I'm just going to get a single broadway mirror and hang over it. I'm trying to find rectangular stick on blind spot mirrors for the sideviews. So far I've only been able to find round ones. Also, want to tint the rear side windows and add a 4" tint strip on the windshield when I have the patience to attempt tinting again

Further mods will include lowering it using some kind of OEM complete strut assemblies. It looks like 02 Accord will work after I change the top hats. While I'm working on the suspension, I'm installing Energy Suspension Poly Master Kit for a 99 Civic Si. I plan on getting this done before the end of the year since my current struts are blown anyway.

I want some kind of OEM wheel set. I like the 17" seven spoke 3rd gen CRV wheels, AP1 five spoke 16" wheels and the 17" double five spoke 07 Civic Si wheels. So far the AP1 wheels seem to be the cheapest and they're smaller, This mod won't happen till springtime.

Should my trans blow up, which it seems it might since it's slipping a little, I'm going to try to convert it to a 5 speed. I may or may not keep the RT4WD, haven't decided yet.

Like it so far.... I'd go for the ap1 wheel's remember rears are wider. Best bet is to look for a set of fronts

Thanks guys. Now imagine most of the dash trim pieces in that color. It was too much. I'm getting used to the door panels but if anyone wants to do an even trade for the stock ones, I'm game.

Will a set of AP1 rears all around fit? I wouldn't mind it if I had some wider wheels and tires as long as there is no rub and no poke. I have a friend with a S2K. I'll try his wheels on after its lowered

Well, I bought a used Element spare tire for $45 and installed it in the trunk. Reason I went with the donut from the Element is because it's the same height as the RD1 tires. To make it fit, I had to do a couple of hours of cutting with an angle grinder and massaging with a 10lb sledge hammer (great stress relief!) It fits nice and snug and I'm still able to keep the picnic table. I had to cut the table latch out to fit the tire but so far it's not rattling or making noise. It looks pretty good if I may say so myself

What about just using the regular staggered set? Will it affect the
ABS or RT4WD even if the tire height is the same?

I'm really anxious to get some wheels/tires and lower it but I've now got another setback financially. My old man is selling the house so I had to move out and now I need to find an apartment. Hopefully my part time job will turn into full time. I hope so, I need it.

Am I the only crv owner that doesn't want to remove the spare tire from the back? I like the extra interior space.

You will have to disconnect the drive shaft if you have a flat. AWD has a full size spare for a reason, and you will damage the rear end if you drive it very far.

It's full size donut. It's 26.3" in diameter just like the rest of the tires. Only difference is that its narrower.
