Default Help with loss of power

I am having some problems and I don't know the cause.

I have a 97 accord with 250k. 4 cylinder, 5 speed.

1. will start to over heat while idling with AC on. If I turn off AC it will return to normal temp. OR if I start to drive the temp will drop to normal.

2. i have a loss of power. Very hard to go up hill. Once at speed can go 80 with no problem.

3. There is a "puff puff puff" coming from my exhaust pipe (no smoke).

I am thinking maybe catalytic converter?

Thanks for any help!

1. Is both fans turning on when you activate the AC?
2. How is your timing on the distributor side? Do you have a timing gun? Also, has the timing belt been changed recently?

1. It looks like just 1 of the fans comes on when the ac is on. The weird thing is that the car will only start to over heat when the AC is on.

2. I had the timing done about 30k ago. I don't about it besides that.

Thanks!

1. Both fans should turn on when the AC button is pressed. Since only one is turning it makes since why the temp gauge starts to rise when at a dead stop. Get a voltmeter and verify 12v at the connector to the fan. If it's the fan, i can be had for about 30 bucks via EBay.

2. Maybe someone else can chime in on this but IMO the timing could be off on the ignition side. I think the timing needs to be @ 15TDC verifiable with a timing light.
