Default From the battery terminals, where do the wires run to?

From the positive terminal of the battery, where is the wires suppose to run to? For my car I have one wire running into the fuse box, and another wire attaches to the starter.

From the negative terminal of the battery, i have a wire attached to the chassis.

Is this correct? I read somewhere that there needs to be a wire from the alternator running into one of my battery terminals?

( i am asking this because my car been having start up problems)

That is correct, one wire to the hood fuse box, one wire to the starter, ground to chassis.
