Hi,

First time poster.

I am hoping you can help. I have a problem with my bonnet. When I pull the release the bonnet doesn't pop up. The catch is working as I can manually lift the bonnet if the lever is held in a pulled position but the initial pop (Springing up) doesn't happen. The bonnet is secure while the lever isn't pulled so the lever / cable is functioning..

Bit of a pain as it takes 2 people to open the bonnet (One to pull the lever and one at the front to lift the bonnet. This is obviously a pain as I cant open it on my own.

Clean the latch and regrease.

I must admit it was a bit gunky but did not think a bit of gunk would stop something strong enough to lift a bonnet?

I will post back with the result.

 

Got to the bottom of it.

On taking the latch off (With the intention to just clean it) I found that the large spring within the mechanism had rusted and the bottom hook had snapped off. After some reforming of the bottom loop of the spring into a new hook I managed to reconnect the spring between the two connecting points.

Bonnet now pops up as it should.
